And most surprisingly to me is Cyber. They are getting skulldrug by nation states and independent orgs swamping their ability to fight beyond their own border.
Russia's cyber warfare groups have been f**king with Ukraine, the USA, the UK, and basically all of the 27 nations in the EU for 20 years or more. There is a lot of ill will against Russia for that, and it appears like everybody has decided it's time to pay Russia back. Russia probably could dominate Ukraine in a cyber war 1 on 1 or be an equal match to the US, UK, Germany, etc. However, when it's 30 nations vs 1 nation they are f**ked.

I seem to recall the Russians shutting a major pipeline in the USA last year.

Attackers will always have an advantage over defenders. In the cyber battlefield, it's the exact opposite of traditional warfare.
The attacker only has to be right once. The defender has to be right 100% of the time. The defender will always lose. It's why current incident response best practice is to focus on mean time to detection, not keeping the enemy out. Because the enemy will always get in if given enough time and persistence.
When it comes to skill in penetrating adversaries, the US has no equal. And it's not even close.

It is going to be interesting to see how they are treated by the Russians.
Supposedly (based on reporting from multiple twitter sauces so take it with a large grain of salt) the only reason they surrendered is that the Russians agreed to a prisoner exchange. Which if true and if Russia honors that agreement (two big ifs) then they will probably be treated fairly.

He can be annoying, but at least he's not a Putin cheerleader gloating over Ukrainian deaths.

Ransom and cyber attacks against municipalities and businesses are down over the last 3 months.
As someone whose business was subject to a ransomware attack, and whose business was affected by the city of New Orleans being hit, I’m enjoying seeing Russia eat a sh!t sandwich in Ukraine of their own making. Being an awful actor on the world stage is coming home to roost for this regime.

Sounds about right based on the pictures and 17 total busses being reported. Amazing what they were able to do for so long.

When I read newspaper articles, I look for objective statements.
The Russians have redeployed forces from other fronts, like Kharkov, to the Donbas.
The Russians outnumber the defenders, and have more firepower.
The Ukrainians are deficient in artillery. This is something that I’ve seen in every piece I’ve read over the last few weeks.
There are manpower shortages.
There are also supply issues.

While Russian morale is evidently not particularly high, their sheer numbers and firepower are enabling them to grind forward.

As he spoke, another volley of artillery struck several kilometres away.
"That was probably theirs," said another soldier, Roman. "They have far more [artillery] ammunition than us. They are firing about three shells for every one we do."
There are manpower shortages.

"We were forced to retreat last night," he said. "We didn't have the forces to hold the town, so we blew up the bridge and pulled back to Severodonetsk."
There are also supply issues.

Spartak was more confident and stressed the need for additional troops.
"The enemy is getting reinforcements, and we don't have enough ammunition for our artillery, either," he said.

And yet you completely gloss over the advances made by the Ukrainian military, and solely focus on Russian gains.
This is why everyone is critical of you.
Multiple posters in this thread have done a good job of reporting the good with the bad. You are not one of those posters.
ETA: See the post after mine for an example of unbiased reporting.

Looks like Russia is changing its tactics

Russia's twilight attacks have left Ukraine in dire need of strike and night vision drones to launch counterattacks.

Russia didn’t capture shite. Those boys ram out of ammunition, food and water is the only reason they aren’t still killing Russians. Not much you can do throwing rocks at tanks. One of the bravest things I’ve seen in my life. 82 days against the Russian army with only one regiment of strength and almost no artillery or air power and you have women and children to worry about as well. Russian military tactics revolve around overwhelming artillery I can’t imagine the hell they went through in those tunnels but it’s ironic that they made their last stand in there because those tunnels under the steel plant due to the Joseph Stalin days if there was an atomic attack. They ended up being used to kill Russians instead of save them.

Sure. The Russians abandoned Kharkov, and concentrated their forces in the Donbas.
It was an intelligent thing to do.
The territory doesn’t matter, putting your flag on a spit of dirt doesn’t matter, the destruction of the enemies army does, and they can do that in the Donbas.
