My “anti Russian bias” is as the result of them invading a sovereign country and murdering, raping and stealing stuff from ordinary Ukrainian citizens-some of whom I know person to person. It has nothing to do with MSM coverage of which I watch relatively little as I have an attention span that far exceeds the average viewer of Cnn fox and whatever passes for media in America, in Canada we have access to American media but I prefer Canadian, British and France TV5coverage. Not to put too fine a point on things equating CNN with Russian state media is fricking retarded.

Calm down hoss, most of us are in that same position. My entire point is that even though we now “agree” with CNN, BBC, etc. we don’t seem be sourcing them. We’re all looking elsewhere, in your case, your own contacts and experiences. This incidence of agreement doesn’t seem to be increasing our trust in those institutions at all.

This counters a more persistent belief that we inherently trust sources that agree with us, and tell us what we want to hear. In this case the OT mostly believes the same General outline as CNN but still think they’re full of shiiite. This only occurs from a poly sci point of view because the center-right (the general OT lean) is aligned with the left in this case, which is the first time that’s happened in a while.

Mmmmh I kind of conflated your original comment with the poster who replied to it-so if I reflexively replied to yours when I was kind of pissed at theirs-I’m still sticking by my comments but I don’t want you to feel shite on-more them lol

Being fair to the large media outlets we are perfectly fine dealing with pure speculation for hours even days before confirmation either way. Mentally I was chalking up the Admiral Makarov from the second I saw the post, I couldn't do that if I was a major media outlet.

It really wouldn't matter if CNN/Fox was getting everything right because it would be reported hours after it shows up here so we wouldn't bother watching.

I mean how many fires in Russia is too many? It feels like this is daily at this point

A major fire broke out in the Russian city of Kursk tonight.

It’s quite close to the Ukrainian border.

What could be on fire this time? LINK

Isn’t there some military thought that the minimum manpower advantage needed for the attacker is a 3-1 ratio? The 200k troops originally committed to this was woefully small.

i would assume weve gone HAM on trying to get some kind of missile defense systems up in the sky that can potentially hit things launched from the chinese or russian interior that our ground/ship based systems dont have the range for

We don't have to destroy the missiles on the ground. Don't we have THAADs in Alaska that are aimed at the Russian interior? Isn't that also why the Aegis Ashore system in Romania is built in such a way that it can respond to missiles launched from Russia or Iran?

Do you really think that? I was in when the wall fell. We trained to fight them. I’m hesitant to think think they’ve done their worst. I just don’t see them tucking tail and run. I think they’ll test waters with chemicals.

They are going to need more than that. Doesn't Ukraine have between 250,000 - 500,000 reservists and draftees in training right now? Russia will need at least 1 million infantry soldiers to conquer Ukraine and shiteload of behind the line people and I highly doubt that Russia improves its behind the lines performance in the near future.

Putin's "Phase 2 offensive" in Eastern Ukraine, ladies and gentlemen. The blue check marks show Ukrainian territorial gains in Kharkiv Oblast today alone.

The Ukies doing work. They are about to split the Russian forces attacking Kharkiv in two. Once the Russian forces have been driven back across that river they will be less than 70 kms from the border at the widest point of that part of the front.

My 30,000 foot view of that looking through clouds is:

3/4 of a million personnel: not that hard

3/4 of a million personnel trained to AIT level: harder

3/4 of a million troops well trained: even harder taking significant time

3/4 of a million troops well trained with proper personal equipment: really pushing the limits

3/4 of a million troops well trained with proper personal AND unit equipment/crew served weapons and vehicles: damn near impossible for Russia in the near term

Proper logistical support of any of the above in the field: as much chance as Alexandra Daddario and Margot Robbie showing up at my door tonight offering to pay me to be in a threesome with them

This war was effectively over 6 days ago. Mass mobilization won’t do anything for 3-4 months by then IF this is still going on Russias losses in men and materials will cripple their ability to effectively wage war against Ukraine, who in the interim will get proportionally stronger in terms of combat readiness and weaponry. Plus -who will lead these new conscripts? 12 Generals 3 dozen majors commanders Killed…as far as chemical biological nuclear not if they’d like to continue to exist-a very detailed summary of how that plays out has been provided to Russia with China cc’d

Did Russia declare an actual war yet? 800 thousands more Russian troops in Ukraine would more than likely make a difference at first, assuming Vlad could snap his fingers and transport them there ready to go. This isn’t ending anytime soon because the people will fight and they have the western worlds weapons at they’re disposal.

The discussion above is about the fact that there is no snap fingers function for new military conscript readiness. It’s kind of a pipe dream for 6 months down the road, and maybe not then.

The crazy thing is so many of these Russian troops are not even Slavic or ethnically Russian. They come from the waste lands east of the major cities and they look more Mongol or Asian.

Mass mobilization and mass conscription will change that. Lots of ethnically Slavic Russian will be effected by this

Putin gave no shite about a solider who is from 7 times zones away from Moscow who had no choice but to join the military due to conscription or because his family has had generations of poverty and there is no way out of it.
