That implies there's some kind of logic to any of this, and the longer it gooes on the harder it is to accept that there is any logic to Russian actions. The leadership really seems to be a cult and the only logic is an internal logic that makes sense to them. The Soviet leadership, at least by the end of WWII, were rational. They were adversaries, but we knew where they were coming from, what their goals were and how to deal with them. They weren't apocalyptic and they wanted their regime to survive. I don't know WTF motivates Putin's gang any more. They're materialistic AF but at the same time they talk about torching the world if they don't get their way.

I've said it before the whole thing is surreal.
I saw an interview with a Ukrainian CPT who is in the Donbas after fighting around Kiev. He said they go to great lengths to conceal there stuff, (tanks, artillery, vehicles) but he said the Russians just drive right off the road and stop.
No attempt is made to form a defensive posture, no attempt made to conceal their position. So he said they throw a drone up, fix their position and start with the tanks....just incredible.

They're doing with everyone that they think threatens them. E.g. Sweden is making moves to join NATO and so the Russians are calling the Pippi Longstocking author a Nazi. It's a sort of a mirror image of calling them commies at this point, except in their case it's a policy directed by their government.
