Putin and Zelenskyy both met with UN Secretary General Gutierres this week.

Putin brought the long table back after a few weeks off (the fear of death is strong in that baw).

A little more normal for Zelenskyy (though Russia fired cruise missiles that struck Kiev during this visit).

Apparently the Transnistrian MoD has ordered general mobilization of the military after today’s ban of fighting age men from leaving the country.

This is the closest thing I could find LINK

quote:

The Defence Ministry of the breakaway region of Transnistria in Moldova has ordered the mobilisation of all men between 18 and 55, “at a special meeting to replenish the peacekeeping contingent,” a statement issued to the heads of local administrations in Transnistria said.

The main reason for the mobilisation order, as published by Ukrainskaya Pravda, is described as “ensuring 100-per-cent staffing of the personnel of the peacekeeping contingent of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic”.

The Tiraspol authorities did not yet confirm the order. It apparently dates from April 21, before a series of explosions at strategic targets in Transnistria took place.

Most everybody loves big government when it's doing things they agree with. There are a few who stand on principle but they're rare. That's why libertarians don't win elections.

Israel is joining Bulgaria, Romania, and Russia in advising their citizens to leave the Moldovan region. Remind me of the build up to the Ukraine invasion.

The government that governs the least governs the best.

Any politician in any democracy needs to build a big tent coalition to win. All political supporters will minimize the policies they don't agree with when they feel like their core interests are being pushed by their favorite politicians.

Macron has pushed policies that are totalitarian left, global neo-liberalism, libertarianism, cultural Marxism, populism, and traditional French socialism in order to create a coalition.

Who did you support in the first round of the French Presidential election?

I also saw a report that the Chechens were supposedly killing Russian soldiers who did not want to fight.

Wouldn’t be surprised

They seem to be the only actual real fighters Russia has

Makes sense bc they come from a warrior culture regardless what you think about their religion and motives.

Even the Russian SOF has been getting merked. I was shocked when it came out 1/3 of their SOF units are conscripts. That’s a recipe for disaster. Definitely not the best of the best or full commitment/motivated.

The bastards love them some TikTok. They are always posting what seems to be staged fights/propaganda for their TikTok videos. I have heard that they are pretty good at urban fighting.

ISW key Takeaways
quote:

Russian strategic bombers likely targeted a Ukrainian field hospital in the Azovstal Steel Plant. The remaining Ukrainian defenders are likely running low on supplies.

Russian attacks southwest of Izyum likely seek to outflank Ukrainian defenses on the direct road to Slovyansk and have made tactical gains in the last 24 hours.

Russian forces continued tactical ground attacks and shelling along the entire line of contact in eastern Ukraine but did not secure any major advances.

Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) Head Denis Pushilin stated that the DNR will postpone local Victory Day celebrations planned for May 9 until “the complete victory and the expansion of the DNR" to control Donetsk Oblast, though the Kremlin remains likely to attempt to claim some sort of victory on May 9.

Russian forces conducted several locally successful attacks from Kherson toward Mykolaiv.

Russian and proxy forces continued to mobilize in Transnistria and set conditions for a false flag attack

quote:

Immediate items to watch

Russian forces attacking southeast from Izyum, west from Kreminna and Popasna, and north from Donetsk City will likely make steady but purely tactical gains against Ukrainian defenders.

Russian forces will likely attempt to starve out the remaining defenders of the Azovstal Steel Plant in Mariupol and will not allow trapped civilians to evacuate but may conduct costly assaults on the remaining Ukrainian defenders to claim a propaganda victory.

Russian forces are likely preparing to conduct renewed offensive operations to capture the entirety of Kherson Oblast in the coming days.

Russia may continue false-flag attacks in and around Transnistria or move to generate a more serious crisis in Transnistria and Moldova more generally.

which ones? Both RU and the Ukies have Chechen soldiers, rhetorical question I’ve heard the same thing. The stuff I heard about was ethnic Russian commanders ordering and at least in one prominent case actually shooting a conscript for refusing to fight in front of dozens of witnesses. The intercepts are confirming this is happening. The actual KIA numbers exceed Ukraine's estimates and coincide with what I’ve been told. North of 30k KIA 60k W 5-6 MPK so we are approaching 100000 off the board one way or another and at least 2 weeks ago I was told this was the magic number. I’m also interested in reports Russia seeks to bomb morgues/create accidental fires in Belarusian and Ukrainian refrigeration units. This is in an effort to keep a lid on numbers. Ukrainians took the hint and before burial have catalogued and tried to identify as many as possible through AI/ personal papers. Grim stuff. Ukies have also exhumed certain ranking RU officers personnel as part of exchange programs for live members of their military-current ratio is 3 dead for 1 live… in the case of generals it was 10 live Ukies for 1 dead general.
