He should have done a better job getting people to chill out in Donbas and honoring the Minsk II agreement. Did you ever see the video of him getting worked over when he went there? To his defense, he isn't really running the show.

A total non collapsing narrative is that Ukraine needs denazification from the Nazi Wagner group? Or is it they need protection from the US biolabs? Or is it they need protection from the West because Poland was totally gonna take over western Ukraine? Or is it that Ukraine was actually going to annex part of Russia? Or is it that Ukraine doesn't really exist and has always been part of Russia? Or is it whatever BS Russia gives for justification next because they don't really have a reason?

Not disputing the rest of your post as we've obviously seen numerous contrived grievances used to justify the Russian invasion. However, I think it's a mistake to say that they don't have a reason. It's the same reason countries have invaded each other for millennia - geography, resources, and historical claims - the Realpolitik. Admission of this is a confession of aggression which the RU will obviously never do.

To me these two quotes don't jive. If the Russian army was close to 100,000 off the board they would be close to collapsing and we just aren't seeing that.

any links? It sure feels like we get 99% cheerleading for either side in this conflict and maybe 1% of strategic / tactical maps, accurate progress updates etc.

Bout right, if anything the "missing" or unaccounted for number is way low.
One theory for the Kiev pullout is so many were walking off everyday they had to get them back in Russian territory to get control.
