Not surprising.

That General basically telling their entire plan

seize the entire eastern Donbas region. Forces would then link up with the Crimea peninsula and capture Ukraine's entire south as far as a breakaway Russian-occupied region of Moldova.

IIRC the PT board, which was not a retard echo chamber then, was saying that in 2014 in the weeks after Yanakovich fled. If that really was Russia’s plan then it screwed up bigly by not acting when the Ukrainians had an acting president whose powers were severely limited, and its armed forces were unorganized, inept, and corrupt to the core.

How strongly supported is that Ukrainian pocket? It’s hard for me to really visualize the accuracy of that article without seeing troop concentrations, supply lines, and understanding the tactical situation for those troops. It seems like the Russians are spread so thin that these encirclements are not really as dire as they look on the simplified maps.

Pretty interesting look at Putins hand and leg tremors or whatever it is that’s affecting him.

That's a good question. The supply lines from Belgorad to the lines are a far as the were from Belorus in the north so I'm sure the Ukrainians will try to stall them out by desupplying them with some of the same tactics, but they're on the Steppe and not the forests here, so that may be harder.

The US had its hands full with ISIS and Obama didn't have stomach to take on Russia, though full-on invasian to Moldova would've been probably different than hybrid-war with de-identified troops in Donbas. I don't think the Russians were ready. They were counting on being able to keeping political control of Ukrainian politics and didn't have military resources built up (as we've seen here, Russia was building to this since last spring).

Recently, an interview was released of Putin, and there seemed to be some very interesting elements. His posture seems off, and he is gripping the table with his right hand for the entire meeting

Vlad dont look so hot. Ya hate to see it.

With regard to the Polish T72s most are baseline but some have been upgraded.

Rumours been going around for months it’s Parkinson’s but I don’t know…I’m suspicious of anything that would provide that much hope but on the other hand (no pun intended) it might explain the impetus for the invasion… one last hurrah?

That's their M.O. Speaking of Wagner, this report came out on Russian mercs deployed to Ukraine:

quote:

Russia has deployed up to 20,000 mercenaries from Syria, Libya and elsewhere in its new offensive in Ukraine’s Donbas region, sent into battle with no heavy equipment or armoured vehicles, according to a European official.

The official said the estimates of mercenary involvement on the ground in eastern Ukraine range from 10,000 to 20,000 and that it was hard to break down that figure between Syrians, Libyans and other fighters recruited by the Russian mercenary company, the Wagner Group.

“What I can tell you is that we did see some transfer from these areas, Syria and Libya, to the eastern Donbas region, and these guys are mainly used as a mass against the Ukrainian resistance,” the official said. “It’s infantry. They don’t have any heavy equipment or vehicles.”

LINK

The British Parliament also got briefed yesterday that an estimated 3000 Wagner mercs have been killed in Ukraine.

As to Putin's health, I'll need to see a lot more than that. Remember how Hillary's been dying for 6 years.

This whole thing has been about Novorossiya the whole time. This has been Putin's aim for years. I said it back in early December. Land grab.

Tough day yesterday for the Russian Air Force. They lost three helicopters and two aircraft. The helicopters included two Mi-8s and a Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter. the planes were a Su-34, and a Su-25. That kind of demonstrates the increasing air defense that the new hardware gives the Ukrainians.

I bought the western experts who thought it was posturing, but you're right. The Russian general's remarks are consistent with what the Russian Sean Hannitys are saying on their state media. I don't think they have it in them to push that far in this operation, but that seems to be their long-term goal.

Putin is obsessed with Novorossiya. Its has been mentioned in his essays and /or speeches/rants for years. Putin laid out what his intentions were in those essays just as Hitler did in Mein Kampf as far as territorial expanson and grievances. He has even used many of the same reasons or grievances that Hitler used. Protecting "ethnic" peoples and taking land back that was stolen or rightfully belonged to them. Hitler used WWI and the Versailles Treaty as the reason for Germany's unjust land loss and Putin uses the breakup of the Soviet Union. Hitler needed a corridor (Danzig) to East Prussia and Putin needs one to Crimea (Mariupol and the Donbass).

The similarities to this and what Hitler did are stunning if one only does some research into what the two wrote or said leading to both events.
