Yeah sending 10,000 chechens seems like a good way to escalate things and get the west involved
I thought the chechens fricking hateeeeeeee Russia? Or is this one of those, the chechens hate everyone and are just pure fricking pychopaths who just want to kill and destroy?

I’m not on any side. I’m pointing out that a cute Reddit analogy is far from accurate and kind of silly. Pretending that the west is some magnanimous group when we’ve spent the last 20+ years invading other sovereign countries and meddling in affairs is just asinine.
There's an analogy that was made for Putin apologists that brings up this argument.
The Russians push a grandmother in front a bus.
The Americans push a grandmother away from the bus so she doesn't get hit.
fr33manantor criticizes both because they both push old ladies.

Putin doesn't give a shite about sanctions. And the oligarchs are either willing to concede wealth for getting the Soviet band back together, or they have no political power.

They are also individually tribal apparently. I thought the same thing until people posted some sources. Putin installed a Chechen puppet and that puppet's sycophants are fighting for him for Russia.
It's also a mix of that they just would be rock hard erect killing white European Christians. Probably still blood thirsty from the Bosnian war.

It’s a bit closer to the Americans pushed the grandmother in front of the bus they knew the Russians were driving with increasing road rage because the Americans have been egging the bus everyday on its route for a good while. The Russians had time to swerve but damage the bus, probably relatively minimally, but chose to speed up and stay straight. Then the Americans act as though they have no blame and Russia has all of it in ignorance the Americans pushed the grandmother in front of the bus in the first place.

The sad thing is that if we hadn’t expanded NATO, Putin would have tirelessly devoted himself to world peace and the brotherhood of man.

You got me man. Not wanting WW3 makes me a Putin apologist. I probably have a Russian flag tattooed on my forehead.

You're right. The Russians definitely needed the Americans to push them into invading Ukraine. There was no precedence for the invasion or reasonable explanation that Putin would do it without being pushed by the Americans.

Putin will not be able to rebuild the Soviet land grab after WW2 without attacking Nato. I just do not think he is that dumb. Also, China does not want a stronger Russia in their backyard. Remember the 50s,60s, and 70s was all about expansion of communism. Soviets, Cuba, China, Vietnam were all in ideological alignment. Nothing about modern day Russia and China are about spreading ideology, they are about spreading their own self interest and empowerment. China does not want Russia to regain their satellite states. China sees themselves as the big boy on the continent, not Russia. They are not going to seed that status easily.

Busy with work, can someone catch me up on what's happened since yesterday afternoon to now?

Ukraine is now a strong independent grandmother being pushed in front of a bus by her abusive ex boyfriend Rusky Guyovitch, and trying to look at big picture things and keep objective means you think Poo-Tin is the bees knees.

Some minor Ukranian successes but Russians appear to have gotten past being bogged down yesterday. Looks like about 350 losses for Russia on low end, 1000 on high end.
Russians are in Kyiv now and there are videos of some fighting in residential outskirts coming out. Apparently the Russians shelled a couple kindergartens, could be propaganda who knows.
I just saw a link/photo claiming Ukraine hit an airfield IN Russia, which is cool if true, but not really meaningful. If Ukraine bows up in Kyiv it's going to get very nasty.

No shite right. Someone remind me, when Russia invaded Abkhazia several years back, were the morons blaming NATO too?

Wasn’t there a Georgian war in the 2000s? What ever became of that?

Literally the same thing, but nah us and NATO are blameless. Only Putin is bad in the equation.
People boil complex geopolitical and historical issues down to singular actions/individual guilts when they’re far more complex.

Oh yea I'm sure Putin was shaking in his boots that Georgia (backed by us of course) was going to invade Russia first and had no choice but to invade preemptively instead. It couldn't have been an opportunistic land grab in the name of empire, not at all.

They don’t right now because the sanctions are pretty weak overall. There are sanctions the EU could impose that would severely cripple Russia, but it would cut off a lot of of the EU from natural gas.
