sure, but if you are a Ukrainian then "territory change" in favor of Russia has not been a friend to you in the past.

I’m probably just overly critical of the analogy because it comes from Reddit which is an absolute cesspool of progthink with no room for dissent or even slight differences of opinion. Definitely not a place for nuance or hard questions.

The Russian news outlet Baza has shared this video, saying that it shows 10,000 Chechen security officials in Grozny preparing for deployment to Ukraine

Maybe that is why there are rumors of negotiations from Russia?

Chechens are nobody to frick with. You don’t get to be the boogeyman of Russian bedtime stories by being soft or weak.

Yeah, agree Russia is not really a threat from a military POV. Another point is their economy is terrible. They have to scrap every nickle and steal from their quality of life to fund their military

Yeah sending 10,000 chechens seems like a good way to escalate things and get the west involved

You know what, I was totally wrong. It’s the best analogy in the world. Ukraine, the strong independent woman that she is, is going to join hands with all her spunky western friends and walk up to the evil huwhite supremacist ex (whose probably a Nazi klansman too) and with girl power and help from the LBGTQIAMAPQI2S+ community, they’re gonna shame Rusky Guyovitch and tell him what a loser he is, and then he’s going to cry and run away, and then everyone starts clapping. Then the credits roll with a mid-air still of them all jumping to high five.

How could I have been so stupid to see it any other way?

You are arguing with someone who is using a Reddit post to frame a discussion about international relations and regional conflict.

Enough said.

Might be a dumb question but where do the Chechens stand exactly? Are they THAT pro Russian? I would assume Putin would rather have Chechens killed that Russians

I mentioned this in another thread but there is a great (and lengthy) book good Bloodlands. It's about Ukraine and other Eastern European countries that were wedged in between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during WW2. The book basically details how they were treated like absolutely dog shite by both sides and around 14 million civilians died through various, but deliberate means at the hands of the Nazis and the Soviets.

I'm glad we are on the same page, I've never really paid much attention to all that.

The Holodomor was less a result of territory change (since it was a part of russia prior to being taken and then lost by the Nazis) and more just the horrors of Communism and Stalinism come to fruit.

Hell the name Russia comes from the Kievan Rus.

The history of the Cossacks is fascinating and I doubt they go down without a fierce fight.
Cossacks

What occurs here will be interesting at the very least . What I think may be the best case scenario is Russia taking the Donbas and some other Eastern Ukrainian territory, basically splitting the country, withdrawing forces and avoiding a broader prolonged European war.

I don’t know what will happen but I surmise that an escalation would be disastrous for the world, far more than a regional conflict.
