He retirement and tax plans seem problematic though. No taxes on under 30, but lowers retirement age to 60. I guess in essence the way our economy has evolved much of our under 30s effectively don’t pay taxes either, but the retirement age and it’s strain on their finances seems a problem.

I work with the French military regularly. They’re good. They were the only country that could operate in and over Libya without US support during the Libyan civil war and their intervention in Mali back in 2013 was impressive by any standard. Look that one up if you get the chance. Unfortunately it’s spiraled into France’s version of Iraq/Afghanistan now.

While long overdue from a “they need to pulled their own weight” perspective, this historically is going to spell trouble, especially if La Pen were to actually win. This will surely make the Poles even more anxious than they already are too.
For good measure, frick China. Japan should arm up rapidly.

The conversation came up when we were there eating at the officer's club in Krakow. Polish baws were ready to run through concrete walls at the mention of Russia.

Not technical by any means, but I was impressed with their response to Syria. They didn’t waste time to frick some shite up when ISIS attacked Paris.

Because our own govt has sold us out to them over the last several decades, they steal out tech and IP, and they’re the next challenge to our global economic and military standing. Doesn’t help they’re Holocausting a large group of minorities in their country. Covid.
If Xi wanted haircut to stop, he likely would. Haircut serves a purpose for him.
In the end, on a macro level they need to be dealt with before their long term approach to succession to global hegemony is completed.

Of course they’re not because we’re in it. Doesn’t mean it’s a good thing to lose a true partner in the alliance. That leaves us largely with just the Brits and the Canadians who participate much at all in the defense portion of the alliance.

It seems to me that the threat of nuclear war and perhaps chemical weapons is the big hammer Russia has. In a conflict with an opposing Air Force both AF and Navy Russia couldn't win. So they will swing the nuclear hammer as a deterrent. I don't see this changing.

Putin may gamble that he could use a single tactical nuke to break the stalemate in Ukraine without the west retaliating in kind. It's pushing all his chips to the middle of the table, but if his army begins disintegrating in the face of a logistics crisis and continued strong Ukrainian opposition, he may feel he has no choice. And, it could be a winning bet.

To be fair, China (and pretty much every other Asian country TBH) has legitimate reasons to want to frick Japan up. Many major business and political leaders in Japan won't even admit the Rape of Nanjing happened. Japan loading up might actually push more Asian nations into China's sphere of influence.
