So you don't think Putin thought that if he put enough pressure on Ukraine they would just lay down instead of fighting them and it ending with the same result that it would end in if they just surrender to him?

Ukraine says it has inflicted 800 casualties among Russian forces
From CNN's Tim Lister in Kyiv

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry says its armed forces have inflicted some 800 casualties on Russian forces since the invasion began in the early hours of Thursday.

It was not immediately clear whether the ministry was referring solely to the number killed.

The ministry said more than 30 Russian tanks had been destroyed, as well as seven Russian aircraft and six helicopters.

CNN is not able to independently verify Ukraine's figures.

From the news feed/updates on main page that refreshes.

but if they had known how bad it was actually going to get, the Germans would have stormed Paris and ended this shite show before it got really out of control

But they tried to do just that, quite valiantly actually.

The French just happened to put up one of the most ferocious defenses in modern history in the late summer and fall of 1914. France was losing up to an entire division a day at its peak.

Then both sides settled in for the long slog.

Edit: RT1987 kindly pointed out that I rolled up First Marne and the Frontiers into a single battle (as has been my habit). They ought to be considered separate battles.

I’ve trashed our politicians enough. Hope for the best of our country and allies though. I don’t know what the best decisions are in this moment for an American president but I do hope Biden makes it. I am rooting for Biden to do well regardless of the fact I didn’t vote for him. Just hope our military doesn’t have to go. Hope Ukraine kills enough commies

It's not clear to me whether or not Ukraine has lost the air yet though. Could have been Ukrainian jets.

Wars seem to bring up the pronunciation. I member roughly 30 years ago we were discussing how to say Qatar.

The intel community was so aggressive about saying "its coming, it's coming" and jerking themselves off over it the last week that I figured it was bluster. It's strange that they broadcast the threat and we ended up in this spot. I wonder if they thought they could bluff Putin down or something.

Dealing with 3rd world insurgencies from a religion, region, and language that have traditionally been pretty far outside our wheelhouse is an entirely different beast than hammering home core competencies against a nation state that’s been the top target for our intelligence services for almost a century. We’ve been two or three steps ahead of the Russians in this aspect almost the whole way, starting a week or more ago. Publicly - and accurately - broadcasting their every intention is a pretty damn deft maneuver, and I say that as no fan of Biden.

The Ukraine & Russia crisis In simple terms for those that have no idea what is going on.

-Ukraine used to be in an abusive relationship with Russia, feeding him, letting him use her car & giving him whatever he asked for until she built up the confidence to call it quits back in 1991

-Since then Ukraine has been working on herself, becoming a strong independent woman with help from friends like France, America, Poland etc. offering her support, loaning her money, & helping her find her way.

-Ukraine has been enjoying being single for 30 years & looking forward to continuing to grow & create new friendships.

-Now Russia being the toxic Ex that it is wants her back, and doesn’t want her meeting new people or creating any new relationships.

-A couple of weeks ago Russia started sitting in the front of Ukraine’s house & when her friends ask him what was he doing there, he said “Oh nothing, just getting a little bit of exercise in, that’s all.”

-After her friends told her that Russia was potentially getting ready to do something bad to her, he said “They’re lying, they just want you to be scared of me & that’s not what it is”

-Yesterday Russia broke into Ukraine’s house, beating her up & “taking advantage” of her while on Livestream & double dog daring any of her friends to do something about it & if they do want the smoke, Russia got that thang on him.
