Russian Navy demanded the surrender of the Ukrainians defending an island.
The Ukrainians responded back: “Russian warship, go frick yourself” before being taken out by the Russians.

I have this weird feeling that a major motivation for Putin's decision to invade Ukraine is to assess loyalty within the ranks. Find out who will be the next leaders/underlings of Russia for the coming decade and maybe carry out his legacy after he steps back. Or dies. Whichever happens first.

I’ve had a similar thought: wonder if Russia is also taking this approach to make the west think it’s weaker than it is (using new conscripts, old equipment/tech, being methodical vs all out cut the head off the snake) to see if the west will frick around and find out later and be surprised.

They aren’t trying to surprise anyone. We know what russia has. They probably just don’t mind using amateurs and old tech as the first wave bullet sponges.
The only theory of “surprise” that I’ve seen that makes sense is that russia wants to smoke out the ukrainian heavy tanks/artillery equipment and sending in a bunch of old tech and conscrips is a cheap way to do that.

It is also a bit of a gamble that gives the world more time to make any moves they are willing to make.

Do we? China launched this space nuke six months ago and we didn’t have any idea about it until they taunted us two months later just to let us know we were powerless to stop them:

The captured soldiers pictured several pages back were from Dagestan. If you follow UFC, you know that's where Khabib Nurmegomedov(sp?) is from. It's an impoverished, Islamic Russian state to the south. I may be wrong, but I just can't see the people from there as hard-core nationalists on the macro level.
That's textbook old school Soviet doctrine. Don't use local troops who might have sympathy for the people they're attacking.

The same western world leaders who have been acting like tyrannical dictators for the past two years with totalitarian COVID mandates are now saying Putin is a tyrannical dictator.

So Russia can’t back out now, right? If they do they look weak and that’s not what they want.

Ok, I’ve been trying to use this thread to get some info and ignore the people like you. But, holy shite. There is a big difference in Covid restrictions and invading a sovereign state that is home to millions of people, you insufferable little bitch.
