Agreed. I know I would use it.

The NextDoor Neighborhood app has an ignore feature and I've used it to block any posts by the known Karens on there.

If TD had that option I'd never have to slog through the Russian propaganda bots on here again.

Of course, that would hurt Chicken's and Circus Child's page view numbers which would impact the advertising rates they would receive so I completely understand why the ignore feature isn't available on here.

Sweetheart deal with Putin is now gone for discounted natural gas. Orban refused to issue permits for a pipeline deal to another natural gas pipeline network not from Russia well over a decade ago.

Agricultural competition.

Before 2014 Eastern European agriculture sold to Russia then Russia banned it after EU sanctions. This caused a lot of issues with French farmers who unionized and high cost producers. The French farmers' profit margin was cut to nothing due to Eastern European (members of EU) being able to sell anywhere in the EU.

This is THE big stumbling block to Ukraine joining the EU. It didn't exist before 2014.

On a side note, before the rise of the US as a grain exporter in the late 1800's, Ukraine was the breadbasket for Europe. There are a lot of trade barriers to thwart US grain exports to Europe now. The anti GMO regs are just a sampling of them. The EU issued a tariff on Biodiesel from the US which is why all of the biodiesel plants built almost two decades ago to turn soybean oil via methanation into biodiesel went bankrupt within 2 years. A client designed, fabricated and built 28 across the South, all long closed. EU wanted its multinationals to not be undercut with the palm oil plantations in SE Asia and South America to make renewable diesel

There is no tariff on renewable diesel, mostly made from used fry oil, but also inedible seed oil in a process developed by Neste Oy of Finland.

Another Body Exchange Just Happened. The numbers are getting worse for Ukraine. No wonder Zelensky was trying to avoid taking his dead soldiers back

These people all have old "tribal" beefs and when you get outside of the cities, they're all assholes to each other because ethnic/national identity is all most people in those places have to find pride in... in every country... everywhere

people will kill each other over soccer games

Not exusing it at all, it's just not a unique thing anywhere... especially in Eastern Europe. As long as it isn't official government policy I'm not sure how you change it...

But if you remember, protecting German speakers throughout Europe was the excuse

The bodies of 1,212 Ukrainian soldiers
have been returned from Russia, Kyiv says, as part of a prisoner exchange agreement between the warring countries. In return Russia received 27 bodies, Moscow's chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said. The prisoner exchange deal was the only tangible result of peace talks in Turkey last week, with both sides agreeing to hand over as many as 6,000 dead bodies each, as well as sick and heavily wounded prisoners of war, and those aged under 25. Medinsky announced that Russia would begin exchanging "severely wounded prisoners" on Thursday.

I have so many ad-blocking features turned on in my browser that I hardly see ads, especially not on this site...

Having a safe space on the OT apparently isn't enough.

And one wonders while these people are so out of touch with reality.

Its actually a well-documented propaganda tactic.

Convince people that any information that doesn't come from Approved(TM) sources is misinformation, disinformation, etc. Then you don't have to actually argue the facts of something, you just argue against the credibility of the source. Then the audience will do the work for you by enforcing commitment to the ideas themselves.

Its how you get to the point where you can guess with pretty good accuracy what someone's view on X will be based on their view on Y. And both sides are guilty of it.

People's Deputy Maryana Bezuglaya stated that the target of the new offensive of Russian troops in the Sumy region is not the region itself, but the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. According to her, the actions of the Russian army should be considered as an offensive not only in the physical, but also in the ideological sense.

Bezuglaya emphasizes that the distance from the current positions of Russian forces to Kyiv is about 300 kilometers. She calls for paying attention to the direction of movement of troops and strategic routes.

According to the deputy, such a situation became possible due to the fact that the United States, in her words, has effectively abandoned the role of a world arbitrator."
