US military aid freeze to Ukraine temporary, linked to Zelensky-Trump clash. The pause in U.S. military aid to Ukraine is temporary and tied to the fallout from Zelensky and Trump's heated Oval Office exchange, House Speaker Mike Johnson said.

I don't have a good feeling about this, but let's see what shakes out of the litter box.

Trump says ban on arms supplies to Ukraine could be lifted if Zelensky starts peace talks
US House Speaker Johnson said the halt in arms supplies to Ukraine is a temporary pause, but Kyiv and Washington must sign an agreement on minerals, and Zelensky must “fix what happened last week.”
"I believe this is the best deal that can be offered and it will help the Ukrainian people," Johnson added.

And Vice President Vance named another condition for the potential resumption of military aid to Ukraine - the start of peace negotiations by Kiev.

President Donald Trump’s decision to pause aid to Ukraine prompted immediate jubilation in Russia.

During his morning radio show Full Contact on Tuesday, top state TV propagandist Vladimir Solovyov triumphantly announced, “The masks are off! We now see that Europe is behind this war... This is the center of liberal democracy.”

“They are totally Satanic!” he added while describing Trump as Russia’s “situational ally.”

In an Orwellian reversal, Solovyov asserted that Russia never had any issues with America, attempting to erase years of previous proclamations that Russia was always at war with the U.S., the war in Ukraine was actually a confrontation between Russia and the United States, that America has been waging war against Russia since 1945, and the Cold War never ended.

While the U.S. was always named Russia’s archnemesis, “Trumpushka”—as Solovyov affectionately refers to the MAGA leader—was consistently claimed as Russia’s own.

State TV experts continually explained that during Trump’s first term, his desire to bond with Putin was constrained by his hawkish team. They asserted that once Trump is re-elected, he would finally come through and fulfill Moscow’s dreams—by cutting off aid to Ukraine, destroying relations with allies, disrupting internal workings of the U.S. government, lifting Russian sanctions, and even withdrawing America from NATO. The only thing that is surprising Putin’s mouthpieces is the speed with which the American president is fulfilling Russia’s dreams.

Solovyov noted, “I will watch Trump going to war with Europe—it will give me great pleasure. Here is how it will go: the annexation of Greenland, the disintegration of NATO, the destruction of the European Union that Trump will no longer recognize, and the economic war between America and Europe.”

Moscow’s predictions that, in his second term, Trump would be “unchained” and pay off like a slot machine are rapidly coming to fruition.

quote:

Solovyov triumphantly exclaimed, “I don’t rule out that with respect to the aid to Ukraine that was frozen, Trump will say, ‘Why don’t we enter into a military-technical cooperation with Russia? Here is who the real enemies of America are: the Satanic Europe and the European Union.’ Trump already hinted about this yesterday.”

Solovyov predicted, “Trump will say, ‘I have nothing against Russia. The liberal democratic b-----ds have maligned Russia the same way they’ve maligned me... Russia says that it wants to return the lands that were taken by the Ukro-Nazis, and I’m saying the same thing. I need Greenland, because it suits our national interests. What’s the problem? The inviolability of borders? Are you joking?’”

It's why I can't really agree with the US receding from its role internationally. At least with the US, you had a vision of what the US wanted the world to look like. In a multi-polar world, that is far less clear and far worse for everything that's needed for capitalism to thrive (mainly the freedom to move capital internationally where it is most efficient). The effects of the Wolfowitz Doctrine and the Bush Doctrine have been devastating.

The US ceding its international leadership role will be a disaster.

Wonder how much ukranians will put up with before they get rid of this tyrant once and for all.

Ukrainians are mostly good people, salt of the earth, etc. They are also very simple people- quick to rally around their flag. They love the feeling that sexy, cosmopolitan Europe supports them.

Zyyyyyyys approval in Ukraine has soared after his stunt but it will also likely be short lived.

Are you too dense to realize that?

I’m smart enough to know Putin pulled the trigger thinking Joe Biden and Europe would just roll over and he’d coast into Kiev, Kharkiv and Odessa in a month or so.

Quit making excuses for Putin. If everyone knew that Ukraine wasn’t getting in NATO, so did Putin. And Putin said he invaded yo protect ethnic Russians, get the and to demilitarize Ukraine.

Btw, Europe isn’t going to rebuild Ukraine after Russia takes over. Why would they help Putin?

There's a Russian guy... I'll have to find his name. He pops up from time to time...

He was on CNN the other day, and when someone said "Well, Putin did not invade when Trump was in office..."

he said "You think Putin planned an invasion in a week? He planned to do this WHEN Trump was re-elected in 2020, but Trump lost, which took Putin totally by surprise. He planned to do it with Trump in office because Trump would not do anything about it except praise Putin making a smart move, as he did out of office at the time. Trump would try to pull out of NATO and pull US troops out of Europe, which he's long talked about... and Putin would roll through Ukraine. But Trump lost. And Putin just decided to try it anyway."

I think so as well, and I'm skeptical that we will be saving all that much money. We will be risking the USD's place as a reserve currency, which isn't good.

I don't know about that, but the documentary evidence suggests that Putin started the invasion plans in 2019, after his first meeting with Zelensky. I have a post about it somewhere, but basically, after that meeting, Ukraine published a white paper outlining their long-term strategic goals, while Russia delayed the release of their white paper until after the Ukrainians, and then delayed it for a bit longer, after which point they put their strategic concerns to paper.

It sure looked that way.

Seriously, Biden took office in January od 2021. Russia launched their invasion about 13 months later.

It wasn’t very smooth and quickly fell apart.

Seriously look at these dates and tell me 13 weeks wasn’t enough time to plan and launch an invasion such as this one.

9/1/39 Germany attacks Poland
5/10/40 Germany attacks France
6/22/41 Germany attacks Russia with millions of men,
