Eutelsat in talks to expand satellite services for Ukraine amid Starlink uncertainty, FT reports
by Olena Goncharova March 4, 2025 11:56 PM
Eutelsat, the French satellite operator that owns Starlink rival OneWeb, is negotiating with European governments to expand satellite connectivity in Ukraine.
The company announced on March 4 that it is working with European institutions and business partners and has equipment ready for rapid deployment to support critical missions and infrastructure in Ukraine, according to Financial Times.
These discussions come as investors speculate that Eutelsat could step in if Ukraine loses access to Elon Musk’s Starlink system.
Concerns over Starlink’s availability escalated after the U.S. paused military aid to Ukraine on March 3. Ukraine has relied heavily on Starlink for battlefield communications, making it a crucial component of its military operations.
Last week, Reuters reported that U.S. officials had raised the possibility of restricting Ukraine’s access to the system. Musk, who owns Starlink and has influence over U.S. President Donald Trump, denied the claim, calling the report false.
Shares in Eutelsat surged as much as 123% to 4.50 euro before settling at a 70% gain, driven by investor confidence that European leaders will increase military support for Ukraine.

Seriously, Biden took office in January od 2021. Russia launched their invasion about 13 months later.
It wasn’t very smooth and quickly fell apart.
Because Putin expected Trump to win re-election.
He rushed it after Biden came in knowing how weak he was.

Z apologizes, says he’s ready to negotiate a lasting peace. He is also ready to sign the mineral deal. Trump says Putin is ready to talk peace.

Not at all Russia built up troops near the border saying it was a military training only, for months. Gazprom also leased natural gas storage and never put anything in it. It also declared up planned outages so the natural gas price was up the entire last half of 2021. None lasted for 30 days so default clauses never kicked in.
Europe started shutting down refineries depending on Russia to fill their gasoline and diesel needs for a several years before this.
The only reason oil and natural gas markets shot up in the Spring of 2022 is because it went into panic of what ended up being unrealized shortages. It settled down to close to normal and from month to month was less in price than the last half of 2021.
That being said, I learned something in business conference call with a former Exxon engineer who was involved in deal with Qatar. All they wanted was the NGLS from the natural gas but if they produced the natural gas they needed a place to send it so at the very least they could ship it to the UK for freight. They money was in the NGL's. This is no different than the natural gas production in the Permian, It comes up with the oil and all the want is the oil There is no profit in natural gas production in the Permian. Pipelines to Mexico to get rid of it.

US military aid freeze to Ukraine temporary, linked to Zelensky-Trump clash. The pause in U.S. military aid to Ukraine is temporary and tied to the fallout from Zelensky and Trump's heated Oval Office exchange, House Speaker Mike Johnson said.
quote:
Trump and Zelensky are expected to sign a mineral resources deal TODAY — just hours before the key address to Congress at 9 PM Washington time — Reuters
So Trump's speech gave us absolutely nothing about the Ukrainian aid freeze or any mineral rights deal. Just more lies from Johnson and the White House. Nothing at all as a matter of fact. No peace plans, no inflation plans no economic plans. Not a single proposal for moving forward into the next four years. You know, like 'leadership'.
It was just a repeat of the only thing Trump can do or will do - he continues to attack his campaign opponents with lies and distortions. He never lets facts get in the way of a good story. Except he's not on campaign now. Like an aged Broadway bit player, it's his big scene and he repeats it every chance he gets.
Meanwhile, JD Vance and his billionaire owners are driving the real Trump plans. We will leave the domestic side of it out of a Ukrainian war thread, but here's their plan for Kyiv:
quote:
Trump's "peace process" -
1. Extort Ukraine & lie about aid given
2. Discredit Zelenskyy & subvert Ukrainian democracy
3. Stop financial + military aid
4. Threaten NATO allies
5. Stop cyber ops against russia
6. Install pro-russian officials
7. Plan sanction relief
8. Block Ukraine's NATO membership
9. Concede to russia before negotiations
10. Spread russian propaganda
He's right, you know.
And what are they doing to Russia to force them to the negotiating table as soon as possible? Declaring that they will drop sanctions. Wow, that will force Putin to negotiate immediately.
Trump is driven by hate and directed by tech billionaires who actually believe they are insulated from their actions. That's a very dangerous combination.
Finally, let us now have a moment of silence in memory of the political careers of the GOP members of Congress that must run again in 2026. It will be a massacre.

As part of his desperate attempt to find leverage in the negotiations over Ukraine's minerals, traitor Trump has now suspended intelligence sharing with the Ukrainian general staff.

It's time we put down the denial and admit that we have a Russian traitor in the White House. The one we elected President.

UPDATE ON UKRAINE
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
05 March 2025
Russia has likely sustained approximately 90,000 casualties (killed and wounded) in the Russia-Ukraine conflict so far in 2025. Since invading Ukraine, Russia has likely sustained approximately 875,000 casualties in total.
The average daily Russian casualties during February 2025 was 1,255 according to Ukrainian General Staff reporting, the lowest daily average since August 2024. The total reported Russian casualties in February 2025 was 35,140, a decrease of around 13,000 from January's total which was the second highest monthly total of the conflict.
The decrease in the recorded rate of casualties, whilst remaining high, likely reflects a decrease in the tempo of Russian operations and assaults. Russia's casualty rate will likely continue to average above 1,000 a day in March 2025, with continued dismounted infantry attacks on multiple axes.

add this to Trump's "peace process" -
CIA Chief: US Halts Arms and Intel to Ukraine After Oval Office Clash
The US has also blocked the UK from sharing intel with Ukraine, per the reports. Experts warn the move could impact Ukraine’s defenses against Russia.
by Kyiv Post | Mar. 5, 2025, 2:32 pm
[Updated at 15:00]: CIA Director John Ratcliffe has stated that the US has paused both weapons shipments and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following the Oval Office meeting.
White House correspondent Edward Lawrence quoted Ratcliffe on X, reporting that the CIA director “looks forward to lifting the pause and working with Ukraine towards peace following the letter to POTUS.”
Before this statement, the Financial Times, citing officials familiar with the matter, reported that the US has cut off intelligence-sharing with Kyiv.
Moreover, the US has reportedly barred Britain from sharing US-generated intelligence with Ukraine as part of its broader decision to suspend military aid to Kyiv.
According to the Daily Mail, UK intelligence agencies and military branches, including GCHQ and the Ministry of Defence, have received orders explicitly prohibiting the transfer of intelligence previously classified as “Releasable to Ukraine” (Rel UKR).
Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion three years ago, the UK, alongside security partners like Australia and New Zealand, had been providing Ukraine with such intelligence.
However, the US has now revoked this classification, pending further notice, a move that experts say could weaken Kyiv’s ability to defend itself.
“The United States’ instruction to stop allies sharing US-derived intelligence with Ukraine is what I would expect,” UK military intelligence expert Phil Ingram told the Mail.
According to the report, the US intends to retain tight control over its intelligence distribution to Ukraine through agencies based in Kyiv.
A senior Ukrainian official expressed concern over the developments, telling the Financial Times: “We have two to three months. After that, the position will be very difficult for us. It will not be a total collapse, but we will be forced to withdraw from some areas more quickly.”

That's what happens when your leader comes into the Oval Office and gets mouthy and insolent to the POTUS in front of the whole world.
Actions have consequences.
Zelensky can resign or get no intel and hardware. He wanted to do it his way, well frick off.

ISW Update March 4 2025
quote:
Key Takeaways:
US President Donald Trump ordered a pause on US military aid to Ukraine on March 3, suspending the delivery of critical warfighting materiel.
The United States had been providing Ukraine with artillery ammunition, armored vehicles, towed howitzers, Patriot air defense batteries, and long-range rocket and missile systems such as HIMARS and ATACMS — many of which are sophisticated systems that only the United States can supply.
The frontline in Ukraine does not risk imminent collapse, but the effects of the US aid pause will become more acute over time.
The European Commission proposed a plan on March 4 that would enable EU member states to increase defense spending to support Ukraine and strengthen European security. European rearmament is vital for Europe's short- and long-term security, and Europe should pursue these efforts regardless of the status of US aid to Ukraine.
Ukraine has significantly expanded its defense industrial production capabilities throughout the war in an effort to eventually meet its military needs independently, but Ukraine's ability to become self-sufficient in the long-term is contingent on continued support from partner states in the short- and medium-term.
The Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated on March 4 Ukraine's commitment to work with the Trump Administration to achieve a sustainable and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The high casualties in Russia's war in Ukraine are the direct result of Putin's determination to conquer all of Ukraine using horrific and costly tactics, and Putin can dramatically reduce this killing any time he chooses.
The Kremlin continues to express cautious optimism about the pausing of US military aid to Ukraine and advanced several narratives as part of efforts to impose additional demands on the United States.
Russian forces recently advanced near Lyman, and Pokrovsk and in western Zaporizhia Oblast, and Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Pokrovsk.
The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) is reportedly developing a plan to partially demobilize a limited number of mobilized personnel no earlier than July 2025, likely to address growing societal backlash over the lack of rotations and demobilization of Russian mobilized troops for over two years.
