Putin is much closer to collapse, overall, right now than ever.
If he is so close to collapse as you say, how is he going to invade NATO countries as you also claim?

ISW Update Dec 17
quote:
Key Takeaways:
The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) killed Russian Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense Forces (NBC) Head Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant, Major Ilya Polikarpov, in Moscow on December 17.
The Kremlin and Russian propagandists overwhelmingly attempted to frame Kirillov's assassination as an unprovoked terrorist act, rather than a consequence of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and Kirillov's responsibility for Russian chemical weapons attacks and information operations against Ukraine.
The Russian ultranationalist information space overwhelmingly called on the Kremlin to retaliate against Ukraine by targeting its military-political leadership and indirectly criticized the Kremlin's decision to not recognize the war in Ukraine as a full-scale war that also impacts the Russian rear.
US National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby confirmed on December 16 that North Korean forces are engaged in combat operations and suffering losses in Kursk Oblast as Russian official sources continue to avoid reporting on or confirming the deployment of North Korean forces to combat in Russia.
Neither the Kremlin nor the interim Syrian government appear sure of the future of Russian bases in Syria, likely accounting for Russia's continued visible preparations at Hmeimim Air Base and the Port of Tartus to withdraw forces despite claims and reports that the interim Syrian government might extend Russian basing rights.
Russian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Toretsk, Pokrovsk, Vuhledar, Velyka Novosilka, and in Kursk Oblast.
The Kremlin is scaling up the intended effects of its "Time of Heroes" program, which aims to install Kremlin-selected veterans into government officials, by tasking Russian regional governments to create more localized analogues.

Satellite imagery taken by @Maxar today at Russia's Tartus naval base in Syria shows newly-arrived military trucks and personnel carriers but no military or transport-associated ships. Higher-definition image on the right.
Overview of port:
So now the Russians wait for cargo vessels to load. Two smaller vessels transited the English Channel heading south two days ago, but that won't be enough. They may have to try to charter commercial cargo vessels. Roll On, Roll Off hulls would be first prize. It will be very expensive but as the Greeks are right there, they will be available. Greek shipping companies will sleep with anyone.

Ukraine's Security Service intercepts conversation between Russians confirming heavy North Korean losses in Kursk Oblast
VALENTYNA ROMANENKO — Wednesday, 18 December 2024, 11:42
A conversation intercepted by the Security Service of Ukraine has revealed that the Ukrainian defence forces have inflicted serious losses on Russian and North Korean units in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
Source: press service of the Security Service of Ukraine
Details: A new call interception, in which a nurse at a hospital in Moscow Oblast communicates with her husband who is fighting against Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast, has revealed that more than 200 wounded North Korean soldiers were taken to a Russian hospital near Moscow in just a few days.
"Yesterday there was a train with about 100 people. Today, 120 others, making 200. How many more are there? God only knows," complains the nurse.
In the next conversation, she says that wards in Russian hospitals are being given over to North Korean soldiers, and wounded Russians are being treated in worse conditions.
The Russian woman also complains that the wounded North Koreans do not speak Russian, medical staff are not allowed to speak to them in English, and an online translator translates with errors and distortions.

China is pushing Russia out of Kazakhstan's uranium sector — Russia is gradually losing its influence in Central Asia.
A Chinese state company has bought Rosatom's shares in a Kazakh uranium mining operation, and plans to acquire others. As the world’s largest uranium producer, Kazakhstan accounts for 43% of global supply. Traditionally, Russia controlled the transport routes for Kazakh uranium to Europe, but sanctions have pushed Astana to seek alternatives. China, the second-largest nuclear energy producer with the fastest-growing civilian reactor fleet, offers both demand and a sanctions-free transit route.
In the vast Kazakh steppes, the power struggle between Moscow and Beijing is far from new. But with Russia diminished, Kazakhstan is choosing China—and the shift looks irreversible.

China has been the main influence there for decades now. A now retired friend was with Exxon there 20 years ago. Russia's influence was not so much. A biz friend was there over 15 years ago to clean up process equipment never installed by Russia. Hydrocracker reactors built by Russia but never installed, attracted zero interest just when they were in high demand in especially Canada. Russia built crap refining equipment, substandard outside of the Soviet sphere of influence. They were all cut up for scrap
