I have watched so much Russian State TV in the last 900 days
I had to limit my views because I was laughing so hard it interrupted my wife's ability to hear what she was watching on TV several rooms away. I have abstained completely the last 10 days. I might wake the elderly neighbor next door with my laughter.
Where is WeeWee's GIF of Solovyov?

I think it got purged from my Imgur account so unless he saved it when I posted it for him then it is lost to the ether, it might be on my hard drive but it would take forever to find since I never give proper file names to files I don't consider important.

Definitely cracked me up. Wife came down the hall wondering what was so funny

There have been so many things in this war that just make me so skeptical of our own ability to wage war, because the Pentagon is chock-full of total imbeciles. But then, I calm down when I remember that our enemies are led by even bigger idiots.
A guy I know was in Naval Intelligence designing war games and training exercises for decades. He said people always underestimate an opponent they view as smaller and weaker and overestimate an opponent they want to see as big and strong... he used that to screw with people in his scenarios.
It makes sense that some high-ranking brass would be older guys who grew up with the Soviet Union as the peer advisory to struggle with and can't let that image go... even though we should've learned enough after the Iron Curtain fell to realize it was never as much of a peer-level match up as we believed.

quote:I agree, those career colonels limited to writing manuals year after year are easy quotes for lazy journalists. But let's consider two points:
The craziest part is that I think CNN is reporting that accurately! That really is what a bunch of idiots in the Pentagon and the NSC actually think.
1.) The Pentagon sources, especially the anonymous sources, are distinctly separate from the Pentagon decision makers. There is more than a little game-playing with the media, with low level disinformation applied when needed. Especially with Operational Security for an allies' active military offensive.
2.) We can't forget the big dog that's not barking - NATO/ US intelligence. Based on satellite, signals and human intelligence, decisions that make little sense to ourselves will almost certainly be based on trusted sources. This intelligence is a very powerful weapon against the Kremlin and Russian military.
Putin's FSB is not the KGB with a new name. It is a criminal enforcement organization for the Russian mafia. When anyone in Russia resists extortion or the forced sale of a company or property, it's the FSB that is called. So when money and not ideology is the driving force in the FSB today, you can buy a lot of information. Remember all those GRU kill squads inserted into Kyiv just before the start of the invasion? What ever happened to those guys...?
So I love maps and Geo-verified photos as much as the next guy, but we can't forget that there is a hell of a lot of information that is not on the Internet.

Everytime I see a statement like that I'm reminded of the movie " Russia House" with Sean Connery . It's a 90's era flick with the CIA and British intelligence trying to silence a Russian scientist who has evidence that the Russian military is a paper tiger and the west wasted trillions on an arms race that was unnecessary. A line in the movie about Russia's nukes, "half their dogs can't get out of the kennel".
Wasn't a bad movie to watch once.

You are definitely willing to give them more credit than I am, but maybe you're right. Maybe this is the coach telling the media that it's going to be so hard to contain the opposing quarterback, because he's such a dangerous weapon, blah, blah, blah -- when everyone knows that he's slow and has a noodle arm.

Quite factual but we didn't need any spies to know this even while Reagan was in office.

That line of thinking isn't restricted to military brass. We had people saying we had to stop Russia in Ukraine so they didn't move on to Poland next in this very thread not that long ago.

More like move into Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

You guys are overlooking something. Eastern European nations and the Nordic nations fear Russia; thus the mass stampede to get behind the NATO curtain.
Russia has proven over time to be a bad neighbor. Maybe they aren’t as powerful as some believe, but the problem is they believe they are and with the threat of nukes they push things to the limit and then some.
No matter what I believe Ukraine has become a disaster for them, but if you believe they are learning some kind of lesson then you are being fooled. They would do it again. It’s in their nature.

Russian idiots just refuse to learn their lessons and prefer to get educated the hard way. Yet another large column of military equipment and troops were hit with a cluster ATACMS a few miles from Korenevo where the furthest known fighting is taking place in the Kursk sector. Around 16 vehicles believed to be destroyed.

Maybe not, but remember that Crimea is not Russia. I really think that once Ukraine gets enough f-16s, if they're properly equipped, then Crimea is gettable for Ukraine.
Not with Harris in the White House. If Ukraine is going to take back Crimea by force then it is going to need at least 300-500 western main battle tanks, at least 100 western fighters (which they should eventually have once all the F16s and Mirages are delivered), more SAMs, technological help with countering drones to protect their tanks, a metric f**k ton of more mine clearing equipment, attack helicopters, and transport helicopters. Ukraine has been asking for those things since the start of the invasion and the Biden-Harris administration has dragged its feet. When they finally decided to give aid it has been too little too late. I see no reason for a Harris administration (and Lord please save us from that) would be any different. If Harris wins, Ukraine's only hope to regain Crimea is to keep fresh water from reaching Crimea and try to blockade Crimea with missiles. However, I don't think Harris would supply them with enough missiles to get the job done.

There's a really clear video of one getting smoked in Sumy yesterday.
Nobody is disputing that kill. That was the second HIMARs that everyone acknowledges that Russia took out. It is the other 300 kills that are fake.

The Putin regime has proven it is willing to throw his men into a meat grinder and level cities with women and children an a whim. The Russian people have proven they won't stand in his way.

I'm the main one saying that... and it's true, I believe... or was true until Ukraine proved more than Russia could handle... and the reason is that Putin didn't seem to realize his military wasn't a peer force to NATO.
