I had mentioned that I had heard the early reports were around 1000 troops. Maybe that was just the first wave and they really caught Russia off guard with more flooding in after that.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian army, appears to have ignored intelligence warnings that Ukraine's Armed Forces were gathering near the border of Kursk Oblast, Bloomberg reported on Aug. 8, citing a source close to the Kremlin.

I suspect that the buildup was at least in part masked by forces assumed to be reinforcements against Russia's attacks toward Kharkiv.

It appears that Russia disregarded an attack on this direction and had moved all its reserves to other areas. Only troops in the area are border guards and yearly conscripts with little training.

Without reserves, they will have to disengage troops from active areas and redeploy to this area. That takes time. If Ukraine indeed is pushing their reserves to consolidate captured area then the delay will give time to clear and dig in.

Trump was the first President who actually got little rocket man to settle down. Most of the Norks saber rattling is to gain attention and have South Korea and others give them food and stuff.

North Korea is a starving nation subsisting on China's table scraps. The Kims stay in power by keeping the population in terror of a pending invasion by the West, only held off by their nukes and military, therefore everyone must sacrifice eating to maintain the nukes and military. If the West is not paying attention then Kim has to do something to draw ire and attention, so the news coverage can be played inside NK as proof that Dear Leader is keeping the West terrified... when Trump visited, it was portrayed internally as "US President Trump is so afraid of Dear Leader and our military, he begs us to be friends... but we can't trust the evil West, so we will pretend to trust them but be ready to strike if necessary."

Time to dig in is a requirement in order to defend.

But so is having the ranged artillery to counter Russian artillery.

Putin and his yes men had exhausted and decimated their troops in their grinding attempt at assaulting Kharkiv. The counter attack on Kursk was perfectly timed surprise.

It could have been intentional smoke and mirrors for what is really going on. Time will tell.

Of Ukraine outsmarting Russia. They knew the Russians have a bad habit of trying to downplay the significance of any counter attacks.

Putin has generals telling him that the incursion has been stopped

They drop in, spout some Kremlin talking points, and then say something about Zelensky and a villa or a Bugatti or something that turns out to be more disinformation.

Then they usually end their tirade with "you war mongers who love to see Ukrainian kids needlessly slaughtered for the greed of a corrupt cargo pants comedian in the name of a big money laundering scheme to enrich DC pedophiles are absolutely disgusting. How can you live with yourself?"

And then they leave for a couple of weeks. Rinse and repeat.

Thanks. I usually listen to the Updates from Ukraine: the Latest. It’s a podcast from the war correspondents at The Telegraph. Heavy British lean but they try to get into more detail.

Au86 has been pro-Ukraine since before the war. He just points out how Biden and Sullivan have f**ked over the Ukrainians because they are incompetent. Same as I have and will continue to do. SirWinston has admitted to being autistic so you have to give him some slack. He is pretty obnoxious though.

Yes I am. I just don't agree with Biden's policies.

Biden's policies have resulted in the death of alot of people over there. I think that they are just using the people of Ukraine and that makes me furious. Does anyone really believe that those in Washington really give a damn about how many Ukrainians die? If they did, they would have supplied them with what they needed instead of dragging this thing out.

Scholz is a damn weak coward also.
