The then president had promised to apply for EU membership
On the serious side, perhaps the "then president" wanted to avoid ceding Crimea to Russia? Apparently that FACT doesn't occur to you diplomatic geniuses.

What did Obama-Biden-Clinton .... and Soros .... and their US backed coup d'état in Kyiv have to do with the Crimean takeover? Are you serious?

So Biden/Harris got Putin to invade Crimea?

Key Takeaways:
Ukrainian Joint Forces and Khortytsia Group of Forces Commander Brigadier General Andriy Hnatov stressed that Russia is pursuing an effort to force Ukraine to commit its available manpower to ongoing defensive operations in order to prevent the accumulation of Ukrainian resources for future counteroffensive operations.
Russian Airborne (VDV) and "Dnepr" Group of Forces Commander Colonel General Mikhail Teplinsky addressed VDV forces in an article and recorded video on the 94th anniversary of the VDV's formation on August 2, attempting to highlight the VDV's performance in Ukraine as an elite professional force despite the fact that VDV elements are fighting essentially as understrength motorized rifle units in Ukraine.
Russian authorities arrested the former deputy rear commander of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division (20th Combined Arms Army [CAA], Moscow Military District [MMD]) Colonel Dmitry Peshkov on August 2.
The Russian Federation Council passed an updated version of an amendment that will allow commanders to punish subordinates for "gross disciplinary offenses," including the use of personal electronic devices, in frontline areas following significant backlash from Russian milbloggers.
The Russian Federation Council also passed a series of bills strengthening the Russian government's control over the Russian information space and further restricting the rights of migrants in Russia.
The pro-Kremlin Moldovan Victory opposition electoral bloc announced its candidate for the October 2024 Moldovan presidential election on August 2.
Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk, Avdiivka, and Donetsk City.
A Russian government official weighed in on ongoing milblogger criticism of Russia's drone production industry.
A delegation of Kremlin officials visited occupied Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts on August 2 to highlight Russian efforts to integrate occupied Ukraine into the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian forces reportedly successfully struck Russia’s Morozovsk Airbase tonight.

That’s the same airfield that Ukraine hit in April and June very hard. Russia bases a lot of its Su-34 fighter-bombers there that launch glide bombs and missiles. The first attack leveled the main hangar of the airfield along with what seemed to be 5 Su-34s and 1 Su-35 destroyed along with 8 damaged Su-34 and Su-27s. The first attack Ukraine sent 70 drones at it. The June attack took out 2 more Su-34s. This is an important tactical target.

Now, if the premise was provoking WWII is the best path to US world dominance, perhaps that is the justification?
You know we already covered this when another poster said the same.

But make no mistake, WWII, both in Europe and in the Pacific was avoidable.

If tweet fails to load, click here. This dude makes some really good points in his thread. Why Ukraine mobilized hundreds of thousands of troops at first and then demolished them never made sense to me. Also Ukraine knew that its conscription system was inefficient and excluded young people in 2022; why did it wait until two years into the war to try and change it? He also makes good points about Ukraine grinding Russia down and being patient for an opportunity to present itself like it did in the fall of 2022 instead of forcing a counteroffensive before its ready like last year. I hope Zelensky and his generals are reading similar things and they stop listening to Jake Sullivan.

That seems to be a very good target for cluster munitions.

It is strange that Ukraine doesn't draft 18 to 24 year olds (last I heard). The cemeteries from D-Day have a great many 18 to 24 year olds.

That is true. The minimum conscription age is 25. It was 27 until early this year. The only way for 18-24 year olds to serve is to volunteer. I have asked my contacts in Ukraine why that is and nobody really knew for sure. They just knew it was a rule made by the communist authorities in the Ukrainian SSR and it was carried over to the Ukrainian republic. Dumb AF to me.

But make no mistake, WWII, both in Europe and in the Pacific was avoidable.
Put differently, had terms of surrender following WWI resembled those ending WWII, the German foundations of Hitler's rise and European war would have been largely absent. I suppose, based on your response, you didn't know that. The Polish Corridor alone was a predictable casus belli, and in fact, it turned out to be just that.
Those are historical facts which are really not even controversial.
