Yet again half the damn story. Ukraine has simply said Russia should attend the next Peace Summit
NYT article
The Guardian

Two and a half years into the conflict with Russia, Ukraine began to develop a plan to end hostilities, The New York Times reports. This is evidenced by what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said about Moscow's participation in the peace summit.
Ukraine hopes for Western weapons and ammunition so that the Armed Forces of Ukraine could contain Russian troops. At the same time, Ukraine started developing a plan to end the hostilities through negotiations, the newspaper said.
"As the war reaches the two-and-a-half-year mark, Ukraine is pursuing a plan for a negotiated end to the fighting. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that he wanted to hold a second international peace summit later this year and that Russian officials should attend," the article says.
On Monday, July 15, Zelensky said that Russian representatives should attend the second peace summit on Ukraine. One should make a plan for the purpose by November. The plan should be developed as a result of three meetings:
on energy in Qatar,
on the maritime corridor in Turkey,
on humanitarian issues in Canada
Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Galuzin noted that Russia would not accept ultimatums at peace summits, wheres one could already see attempts to raise Zelensky's ultimatum-like peace formula.
Russian Pravda
NYT article

Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that Russia should be represented at a second peace summit in November, after a first summit convened by the Ukrainian president last month in Switzerland to which Moscow was not invited. Both sides have shunned direct peace talks since negotiations between Russian and Ukraine delegations fell through in the early weeks of Russia’s invasion in February 2022. But during a press conference in Kyiv after his visit to the US for a Nato defence alliance summit, Zelenskiy opened the door to direct talks with officials from Moscow. “I believe that Russian representatives should be at the second summit,” Zelensky said, describing preparations for a follow-up gathering of Ukraine’s allies.
In the same news conference, Zelenskiy said Ukraine needs 25 Patriot air defence systems to fully defend its airspace, adding that he also wants western partners to send more F-16 warplanes than those already pledged. A six-month delay in military assistance from the US, the biggest single contributor to Ukraine, meant that Kyiv’s forces had “lost the initiative” on the frontline, Zelenskiy said

FWIW literally the same thing was said a MONTH ago
June 19 - Bloomberg

Ukraine may invite Russia to the next meeting slated with international partners aimed at working out a formula for future peace talks, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff said.
The Kremlin has repeatedly made clear it has no intention of engaging with the Ukrainian plan. But Andriy Yermak, Zelenskiy’s top adviser, raised the possibility as working groups prepare the details for a follow-up gathering after last week’s summit in Switzerland.

I was just scrolling through some old news and decided to post this
Newsmax May 25, 2024
quote:
Russian ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov told Newsweek that "we consider statements by representatives of the U.S. administration about Russia's alleged lack of readiness for peace negotiations with Ukraine as a deliberate attempt to turn everything 'upside down.'"
At a time when the Russian military has made key gains toward Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv, breaking a yearlong stalemate, Antonov stated that "there can be no talk of any "freezing' of the conflict" and the Russian leader "did not say anything like this."
"Let me emphasize that any Russian-Ukrainian agreements must take into account the situation 'on the ground,'" he said. "Retreat or withdrawal of the Russian Federation Armed Forces to hypothetical dividing lines is excluded. Let us remind you: there is a Constitution of Russia. The borders of our state, which include new federal subjects, are clearly marked there."

No war has ever been ended by negotiations between the 2 parties involved (barring nuclear weapons or outright arse kicking). It takes outside influence to make that happen.
Who will step up?

I mean Ukraine can continue the war if they want. They are getting a lot of help from other countries. The aid is coming at our request and insistence. It would end if DC cuts off support.
Did any of you idiots actually read Trump’s position on Ukraine that I posted earlier? Trump position is that any refusal of Russia to negotiate will cause Trump to increase aid to Ukraine. Trump has also said that Putin’s negotiating position is unacceptable. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that one of two things will happen next year. 1. Putin backs down like the midget bitch he really is. 2. Putin doesn’t back down and Trump increases aid to Ukraine.

Now you are making me laugh. Nah dude, just different phases of similar occupations though I appreciate the vote of confidence, which I definitely can say the same about you. You definitely know that this is not a very common occupation/profession, but it gives us a very wide view of global manufacturing in varying aspects.
I'm going to Ormet in the morning to see if anything worth buying from the demolition contractor. The odds are that it will be a wasted day.

Russia's metals exports have plummeted since start of year
Economichna Pravda — Monday, 15 July 2024, 17:26
Another important component of the Russian economy is experiencing a decline in exports: the metals industry.
Source: The Moscow Times
Details: The first half of 2024 saw a 14% drop in the amount of metals exported by rail. Metals businesses have lost more than 2 million tonnes of exports compared to the first six months of last year, bringing the overall volume down to 13.1 million tonnes.
According to reports, the metals industry is another of Russia’s major raw materials industries that is encountering difficulties with export sales due to tougher US sanctions and a widespread block on bank payments.
The sale of metals abroad provided the Russian budget with US$60 billion, or one-seventh of total export revenue, which the Central Bank has forecast at US$423 billion dollars – US$130 billion less than in 2022.
The Kremlin had expected exports to increase to US$471 billion this year, but that projection was drastically revised downwards in April (to US$428 billion) when Russian enterprises struggled to make payments and attempts to reach an agreement with banks in friendly countries stalled.

'We're forcing everyone away,' Trump says on Russia sanctions
by Nate Ostiller July 17, 2024 12:21 PM
When asked if the easing of sanctions on Russia would be part of a potential peace plan, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said that he "doesn't love sanctions" in an interview with Bloomberg published on July 16.
As is often the case with Trump, he did not directly answer the question about potentially easing sanctions, but instead spoke about the subject generally.
"So what we're doing with sanctions is we're forcing everyone away from us. So I don't love sanctions," Trump said.
