Zelensky: 'Ukraine doesn't want war to last for years,' looking ahead to 2nd peace summit
by Kateryna Denisova and The Kyiv Independent news desk
A detailed action plan should be prepared to consider at Ukraine's second peace summit over the next few months, President Volodymyr Zelensky told journalists in Brussels on June 27, Ukrinform reported.
Such a plan should include steps related to "all the crises" caused by Russia's full-scale invasion, according to Zelensky.
Switzerland hosted Ukraine's global peace summit on June 15-16, with over 90 countries and organizations in attendance. Seventy-eight states and four organizations signed the final joint communique of the peace summit on June 16. Nine more states joined the document after the event.
Kyiv is planning to arrange a second global peace summit before the end of 2024. Kyiv hopes to develop a new joint peace plan based on Zelensky’s 10-point peace proposal, although is open to opinions from other countries.
"We don't have much time. We have a lot of injured, killed, both military and civilians. So we do not want this war to last for years. Therefore, we have to prepare this plan and put it on the table at the second peace summit," Zelensky said.
Ukraine wants the talks to be open, the president added.

I'm sure Russia will be itching to sign something where they give up all the territory AND get tried for war crimes

Why does Russia reject peace? Why do they want to prolong the bloodshed?

Aren't Russians killing retreating Russians, like good Christians are known for

Acquiring Israel’s Patriot batteries would completely change the game with Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. They could protect so much more vital infrastructure that previously had gone without.

Fake news. The Russians use Muslim Chechens to kill retreating soldiers.

I don't think that it's a coincidence that we're hearing about this right after hearing that US contractors will likely soon be allowed in the country. As I said about that, there had to be an assessment that the risk is going down.
My understanding is that Israel's Patriot systems are all of the older PAC-2 configuration, which are not as good as PAC-3 at intercepting missiles, but are actually a little bit better than PAC-3 at hitting enemy aircraft. So, some of these Israeli systems would likely be deployed near the front to push back Russian jets and their glide bombs.
My understanding is that of Israel's 8 systems, 4 of them are originally from the US and 4 are from Germany. And I think that means that the US systems are designed to be stationary (and would likely protect cities and infrastructure), but the German ones are truck-mounted and would be deployed near the front lines.

ISW Update

Key Takeaways:
Russian forces have sustained the tempo of their offensive operations in the Toretsk direction since activating in the area on June 18 and likely aim to reduce a Ukrainian salient in the area, but there is little current likelihood of rapid Russian gains near Toretsk. Russian forces have committed only limited forces to this operation so far, which suggests that Russian forces continue to prioritize gradual advances through consistent grinding assaults over operationally significant gains through rapid maneuver.
Slow grinding Russian offensive operations in the Toretsk direction are in line with Russian President Vladimir Putin's articulated theory of victory that posits that Russian forces will be able to continue gradual creeping advances indefinitely, prevent Ukraine from conducting successful operationally significant counteroffensive operations, and win a war of attrition against Ukrainian forces
Ukraine signed long-term security agreements with the European Union (EU), Lithuania, and Estonia on June 27.
Russian officials and information space actors continue to frame migrants as a threat to Russian society amid ongoing efforts to utilize migrant communities to address Russia's force generation needs.
The Kremlin may be using indirect means to bypass Russian law and codify a state ideology that emphasizes Russia's "traditional" social values while attempting to increase Russia's birth rate.
There is currently no evidence supporting recent reports that North Korea may be sending engineering forces to rear areas of occupied Ukraine, and ISW has been unable to locate the North Korean confirmation that some Western amplifications allege has been made.
Russian forces recently marginally advanced near Siversk, Avdiivka, and Donetsk City.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on the long-term future of the Russian Navy and Russian shipbuilding on June 26 and noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) plans to introduce more than 40 new ships and vessels to the Russian Navy in 2024.

Would love to see a breakdown of what they are referring to as ships and vessels.

If I was Zelensky I would be trying to cozy up to Trump after tonight. If he watched that debate he had to be thinking: Holy shite!!!
That was a beatdown. There is no way they will allow.Dementia Joe anywhere near another debate.
I doubt Dementia Joe will even be on the ticket in November. Even CNN and MSDNC are calling for Biden's removal from the ticket!
81 million votes my arse.

Based on their deployment of golf carts for mechanized assault units, I'm gonna say the Naval version would be windsurfing boards with AKs mounted on front

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 28 June 2024
With Ukraine successfully denying Russia's ability to establish control of the air space over Ukraine, Russia has been restricted in its ability to exploit its substantial force of fast jet and bomber aircraft. To overcome this failing, Russia has become heavily dependent on the prolific use of relatively low-cost Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). These have been used to suppress Ukrainian air defences and attack targets, both military and civilian, beyond the range of its artillery.
On 21 June 2024, the Ukrainian Navy and Security Service of Ukraine reported they had struck Russian 726th Air Defence Training Centre at Yeysk airfield, Russia. This base is one of at least five from which Russia launches its UAV attacks against Ukraine. This strike reportedly destroyed 120 UAVs, of differing types, and wounded 9 personnel.
It is highly likely that, in the short term, these strikes will cause some disruption to Russia's ability to use UAVs to strike targets deep within Ukrainian territory from these locations. There is a realistic possibility that Russia will disperse its UAV operations to less vulnerable bases and hence the impact will likely be temporary. It is likely that Ukraine will exploit its recent successes and continue with its counter-UAV campaign to the detriment of Russia.

Would someone who is a good deal maker give the other side everything it wants publicly before negotiations even start?
Realistically the terms Trump is willing to accept from Russia probably depend on how he’s feeling when he wakes up that morning or how his last round of golf went.

Very interesting report from David Patrikarikos as he embedded with a Ukrainian special forces unit as it went to a quiet sector of the Russian border and launched a large drone (converted passenger plane) to hit and disable the power station of a Russian military manufacturing plant.
