It consists of a damaged submarine (damage to hull noted while in Cuba), a small frigate, a salvage tugboat as big as the frigate and a small oiler (tanker with fuel for the tug and the frigate) that is all. Anyone who is concerned is a panty waist
Well I have yet to meet anyone in the state who is remotely concerned

That’s Broward County which is still made up of snowbirds and homegrown liberal Karens. If Russia attacks Broward County we should fail to intercept.
ETA: I am obviously joking admins. I don’t want Broward County attacked. I know a lot of good people there even if they are liberal dumbarses.

South Florida in general is pretty terrible unless you're there to fish.

I'll have to find again but while in Havanna there was photo evidence of the hull being damaged along the top. Not sure if it is craftsmanship issue or caused by something hitting it
From what I've read, its not uncommon for all navies to deal with varying degrees of the issue as the panels are designed in a way that they can be swapped out. The hulls flex some much as the pressures change which creates the issue. For the Russian sub, the titanium hull makes is especially difficult for adhesives to stick when you also combine that with the temperatures of the waters they typically work in.
With all that said, I'm not a stealth sub expert, nor can I find the article again to link.

Remember how badass we thought the Russians were in Firefox?

The point is that stealth would be lost with missing acoustic tiles.

Good thread with enlightening comments on the evolving Electonic Warfare.

Is Russian Electronic Warfare successfully jamming the GPS signals on American provided precision guided munitions to the point that Ukraine can no longer effectively employ them?
No. No it is not.
Many people seem to believe so though. So what's really going on?
quote:
Lost in the conversation is that the most vulnerable systems to EW are commercial off-the shelf ones. These include non-military grade communications and commercial drones. A RUSI report from May 2023 found that Russian EW was jamming Ukrainian comms over Motorolas with 256-bit encryption and was also downing 10,000 Ukrainian UAS per month.
quote:
GPS guided munitions are not equally impacted. Some are completely compromised, others are degraded but still effective, especially with countermeasures and others remain largely unaffected.
quote:Further information of the impact of EW on GMLRS, JDAM-ER and Ground Launched Small Diameter Bombs as well as the possible impact of F-16s when they arrive. The Russians are successfully adapting and the challenges for Western designers of guidance systems are growing.
On one end of the spectrum, the M982 Excalibur 155mm guided artillery shell initially enjoyed a 70% effective rate. Russian adaptations to their GPS jamming efforts were successful in reducing that to just 6% though. Consequentially Ukraine largely abandoned using them.

Russia continues to make advances in eastern Ukraine as Kyiv's forces report an increased "intensity" in fighting along the front lines in the Donetsk region.
quote:
A map compiled by ISW on Monday highlighted several ares where significant fighting in the Donetsk region was reported over the past 24 hours, including near the town of Novopokrovske, which Russia troops seized last week, according to geolocated footage reviewed by the U.S.-based think tank.

Moscow's troops also made advances toward Chasiv Yar, a city roughly 10 miles west of Bakhmut, according to ISW. Additional footage published last week indicated that Russian troops had also advanced west of Kalynivka, a town north of Chasiv Yar.
quote:
Russia also recently advanced west of Avdiivka, which was captured by Moscow in February, near the towns of Sokil and Umanske, the ISW reported. Fighting reportedly also continued north and west of the Donetsk town into Monday.

This sounds about right. Figured the mil grade stuff would be hardened to certain extent. The ones I read about the most having issues with ew are the atacms. Not sure if true or not. I know they are kinda old

There seems to be some scepticism about effective jamming of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). There are 5 GNSS constellations used around the world: GPS (US), QZSS (Japan), BEIDOU (China), GALILEO (EU), and GLONASS (Russia).
Can they all be jammed simultaneously? Do NATO weapon guideance systems use multiple GNSS signals? What about targeting the jamming weapons? Lots of questions but it seems only the Ukrainians know all the answers at this point.

One of the reasons we delayed delivery of some systems -- such as ATACMS -- is because we either had to upgrade or downgrade the software package.
So if it's an older system we had to add the updated software. And if it's a newer system we had to take off the latest and greatest stuff so the Russians and Chinese don't know what our true capabilities are.

Some ATACMS variants also use inertial guidance which is not dependent on a signal. Provides sufficient accuracy when used with a cluster warhead.
