I agree. He doesn't set the policy though, he's just dumb enough to say it out loud.

Or privately he understands it, and US policy doesn’t deter Ukraine. But the public statements are just whatever the PC thing is to say.

Biden has put Sullivan in charge. Austin is simply reflecting administration policy, saying what he's told.

It’s interesting to me because Blinkin doesn’t come across that way. So he and Sullivan may have different perspectives.

Seems like he could have just repeated the party line "the US neither condones or assists strikes on russian territory". But, there could be context that prevented that answer. I'm not going to listen to his whole testimony to find out though.

Justamazing. Isn't that part of military stragety to force the enemy to ration fuel?My dad was in assigned to a B-24 in Italy during WW11. He said they flew a lot of missions against syntheic fuel plants in southern German and Austria.
Guess they got it all wrong.

Of course that is military strategy. They seem to be very focused on the battle for public perception and countering Putin’s talking points.

Wikipedia has a decent summary Oil campaign of World War II

some testimonials ...

Several prominent German military officers, however, described the oil campaign as critical to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Adolf Galland,[b] wrote in his book "the most important of the combined factors which brought about the collapse of Germany",[29] and the Luftwaffe's wartime leader, Hermann Göring, described it as "the utmost in deadliness".[15]: 287 Albert Speer, writing in his memoir, said that "It meant the end of German armaments production."[30]: 412–4 It has been stated to have been "effective immediately, and decisive within less than a year".[31] Luftwaffe Field Marshal Erhard Milch, referring to the consequences of the oil campaign, claimed that "The British left us with deep and bleeding wounds, but the Americans stabbed us in the heart."

US transfers seized Iranian weapons to Ukraine

The United States transferred military equipment seized from Iran to Ukraine earlier this month, according to U.S. Central Command.

On April 4, the U.S. provided Ukraine with over 5,000 AK-47s, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPG-7s, and over 500,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces. These weapons were seized by U.S. and partner naval forces during four separate seizures from May 22, 2021, through Feb. 15, 2023.

“U.S. CENTCOM is committed to working with our allies and partners to counter the flow of Iranian lethal aid in the region by all lawful means including U.S. and U.N. sanctions and through interdictions. Iran’s support for armed groups threatens international and regional security, our forces, diplomatic personnel, and citizens in the region, as well as those of our partners,” CENTCOM said in a statement on Tuesday. “We will continue to do whatever we can to shed light on and stop Iran’s destabilizing activities.”

US Slams Strikes on Russia Oil Refineries as Risk to Oil Markets

Brought to us by the same geniuses that gave us the Afghan "withdrawal" late night bug out.

Lack of production isn’t the problem. The long term outlook for oil in the West is bleak from a political standpoint due to the energy and environmental policies being implemented.

And for that reason Putin contributes to American environmental and global warming activist groups.

They don’t say anything without a strategic reason. I wonder why this. Maybe it’s cover for the “misuse” of long range weapons. Creates confusion, perhaps.

@ColbyBadhwar

Just now in a HASC hearing, Assistant Secretary of Defense Wallander says that Russian oil & gas infrastructure is a civilian target.

They don't have to. Less refined products on the global market, means the US needs to export more refined products thus driving the price at the pump up here just before an election.

“Ukraine is better served in going after tactical and operational targets that can directly influence the current fight.”

Ukrainian drone technology and production have sidelined the Sullivan Plan. The White House has lost precious control and statements like this are just whining from a bunch of think tankers that don't understand why the Ukrainians aren't behaving as they've been told. Kyiv should listen to reason instead of... well, like actually carrying the fight to a terrorist enemy that is killing civilians every night. Uneducated boors...

Can you imagine? The Ukrainians are fighting a bitter enemy for their very existence; yet they don’t consider messing up the American way of life!!!

It's almost as if you chickenhawks are starting to realize that propping up Ukraine isn't in the United States' best interests.
