Russia definitely overwhelmed Ukrainian air defense last night. Russia took out a shopping center and the maternity ward of a hospital in Dnipro, a kindergarten in Lviv, a high-rise residential building in Kyiv.
Russia doesn't even pretend to go after military targets. It's just going for terror.

"Everything indicates that a Russian missile entered Polish airspace. We have radar, national and allied confirmation of this, announced General Wieslaw Kukula"
Given the lack of US/EU funding, I'd say that's pretty convenient timing.
It's also possible Russia is just that stupid.

Seems like a foolish, emotional waste that will have no military effect other than to harden hatred for Putin and Russia.
The Germans had the RAF on the ropes after a campaign of bombing their air fields and support facilities, but switched to terror bombings of cities giving the RAF a reprieve.

It's also the 3rd time something like this has happened. Nothing happened the last 2 times (1st was an Ukrainian AD landed in Poland, 2nd was a Russian rocket targeting a port landed in Romania). Looks like Russia might have used Polish airspace but I'm doubtful anything meaningful beyond stern words will happen
ETA I really thought Romania was going to provide some AD near the Border after the last time too. Maybe that's what Poland does but I'm doubtful

| The official statement from the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces regarding today's incident with a Russian missile:
"We would like to inform you that on Friday at 7.12 [am] local time, from the side of the border with Ukraine, there was a violation of Polish airspace by an object that left Polish territory after less than three minutes. We identify it as a Russian cruise missile.
Throughout the whole time, the missile's flight path was tracked by radar systems, both Polish and allied. Air defense systems remained ready for use. In addition, F-16 aircraft patrolling the sector were directed to the area where the missile crossed Polish airspace. Additionally, in order to verify data from radar systems, forces and resources from the land forces, air forces and territorial defense forces were deployed to trace the object's flight trajectory on the earth's surface."

Gen Wieslaw Kukula said the missile travelled about 40km (25 miles) into Polish airspace early on Friday...
About 200 police officers have been conducting a search of the area where the object was detected in case the missile landed on Polish territory.
Poland is a member of the Nato alliance, and Polish and Allied aircraft were scrambled in response to the incident at around 07:00 (06:00 GMT) on Friday. There have been no reports of an explosion.
Operational Command spokesman Lt Col Jacek Goryszewski said an unidentified object had entered Poland from Ukraine near the town of Zamosc, in the Lublin region of south-eastern Poland, not far from the border...
An unconfirmed report said a search was taking place near the town of Hrubieszow.
Polish military expert Cmdr Maksymilian Dura told TVN24 it was premature to conclude it was a Russian missile because it had not been found, and just because contact had been lost it could not be certain that it had left Polish airspace.
Krzysztof Komorski, the president of the Lublin Voivodship [equivalent to a province or region] wrote on social media: "Please be calm and patient, the services are working."..
In November 2022, two Polish farmers were killed by a missile that landed in the village of Przewodow near the Ukrainian border. It was believed to have been fired by Ukrainian air defence forces to repel a Russian missile attack.
In a harmless but more embarrassing incident from December last year, an object believed to have been an unarmed Russian Kh-55 cruise missile was fired from Belarus and crossed around 500km of Polish territory before landing in a forest.
The object, which was detected by Polish air defences at the time, was only found in April this year by a passer-by not far from the city of Bydgoszcz in central Poland.
Another unidentified object that entered Polish airspace this year from the direction of Belarus was probably an observation balloon. Radar contact with it was lost near Rypin in central Poland...
Poland's new defence minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, stressed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the security forces "acted immediately" to the latest incident, reassuring Poles, "the state is acting!".
His predecessor, Mariusz Blaszczak, from the right-wing Law and Justice-led government that lost power in an election in October and served as defence minister during the two earlier events, responded: "We don't know what fell in the area of Tomaszow Lubelski. We don't know if anyone was hurt. We don't know why the anti-aircraft defence systems didn't work. Is the state acting?"

In before one of the Russian proponents jumps in to say you can’t believe anything ftom the media, unless of course it’s from Putin.

Ill just say it very consistent with the reporting coming out of gaza. According to news reports the IDF has not killed one hamas terrorist, every person killed is a civilian, every bomb dropped hits some residence/hospital/or school.
You think they would at least hire different writers to report these two conflicts.
By the way, if their air defenses shot them down.....why are they showing burning buildings, did Ukraine set them on fire for the media?

The US has bragged about how they can jam the guidance systems of some missiles. I would hate to think we are purposely steering these missiles into civilian buildings to gain favor, but it wouldnt be the first time the US has done it.

I am not going to suggest the reporting is always accurate in these situations but downed missiles/rockets/drones can absolutely cause damage and fires. I saw it firsthand with SCUDs. Most HE compounds burn really well, just ask soldiers that heated up rations by burning C-4.

I know news is slow to reach Trinidad so I will quite the reported stats;
quote:
The Ukrainian Air Force says it shot down 114 out of 158 missiles and drones launched overnight, including 87 cruise missiles and 27 Shahed drones.
All the missiles were not shot down.

Explosions reported in Belgorod and Bryansk.

According to one of my sauce(s) in Ukrainian Air Force the missile that hit the kindergarten in Lviv flew right over one of Ukraine’s biggest tank repair facilities. Instead of hitting a legitimate military target they hit a f**king kindergarten.

You need to check into psych hospital if you really believe that.

It's more likely that they just missed

There were no military targets within a 0.5 km or more from the impact. It is possible that Russian technology is not that great especially with it being blocked from importing computer chips from the major producers. However, I think it is more likely that Putin is telling his Air Force to bomb the Ukrainian people to try and break their will.

Putin may be an a-hole but he's not retarded. No matter how strong Ukrainian will is they can't win this war without western aid. And the more images of blown up maternity wards, kindergartens and orphanages hit the airwaves the easier it is for western governments to give aid to the Ukrainians.
