This is more like leaving your gun at the camp when you might need it at home.

Right. I wonder how many Russian subs are in international waters just off of the USA. Isn't everything past 12 nautical miles considered international waters? That means a Ruskie sub could be just chilling closer to us than some oil platforms.

How many do you think the US has in the Black sea?

Am I naive to think China has a chance to play world savior here and make the US look meek in the process?

If they were to turn on Putin and help impose some sanctions. I do think it is a good opportunity for China to come out ahead of the US

It was always wishful thinking. NATO isn’t going to get anywhere near this fight. Russia will overwhelm what’s left of the Ukrainian military soon enough. The western powers will make a show of supporting the insurgency for a while but eventually we’ll get bored and abandon them. The sanctions will gradually be eased up too over the course of the next year. Wayyyy too much money is going to be left on the table by keeping Russia completely isolated. Everything you’re seeing now is just for show.

Sounds like you're wishcasting from a Putin point of view.

I'd be surprised if there is a single Russian boomer that doesn't have a US attack sub trailing it the moment it leaves it's base.

In this case, he is probably right. I think Poland has some spare Migs that they want to give to Ukraine, but I doubt there’s a “neutral” way to fly them directly into Ukraine via Polish air bases.

The only legitimate way to get them in is to drive them in on large bed trucks that would be sitting ducks for Russian bombs.

Edit: I meant to clarify that this might be the case in the specific instance of the proposed jet fighter delivery. Stingers and guns can be more easily and more legitimately delivered to Ukraine provided that the government doesn’t completely collapse and a Russian puppet government doesn’t proclaim sovereignty and declare way against any nation that delivers arms to insurgents.

If any Cajuns find them raising their traps those Ruskis gonna be floating in the gulf. (Actually had an old guy tell me and my friends that one time - except it was the river we'd be floating in. I'm proud to say I didn't raise anyone's traps. Can't vouch for the miscreants that were with me though).

going to be real awkward when Germany shows up to the WWIII red carpet party in the same dress as the USA, UK, and France.

Never underestimate Germany’s ability to do something stupid to try to frick over Britain and France though.

Yes, because they have a vested interest in Russia taking Ukraine so they can take Taiwan. If the Ukrainians successfully fend off Russia, then China will likely not invade Taiwan. Taiwan is like the Eastern Switzerland and will be much harder to take than Ukraine despite its size. They’ve got bunkers in the mountains in the middle of the country, and it will be a bitch and a half to weed the people out of those bunkers.

I don't think China's plans with regard to Taiwan will be at all influenced by the on the ground realities of the Ukraine invasion.

I do think they'll look to world reaction and adjust accordingly.

By threatening Russia with true isolation. That's a dangerous prospect of course, but so long as China and their 30 year gas deal is unaffected Russia has a huge economic engine, source of power and influence still remaining and not in opposition to them.

Oh yes it is. They’re paying attention to this situation very closely to see how this works out for Russia. If Kiev surrenders today, I guarantee by next week our satellites will pick up that they’ll be massing up troops on the southeast coast. This is the elephant in the room with the invasion of Ukraine.
