So you're telling me that Putin would've completely withdrawn from Ukraine territory if only someone would've sat down and asked him nicely? Because asking Ukraine to give up one acre of their sovereignty is, and should be, a nonstarter.

I was thinking more along the lines of setting up a buffer state or pursue Russia’s forces to weaken their ability to attack again or regime change in Russia.

So your suggestion is what exactly? Lay out how Ukraine should stop this that doesn't involve a war and maintains their sovereignty and territory

Persia tried this "sovereign" nonsense with Alexander the Great and it didnt work out so well. Maybe they should let Russia keep the territory full of Russians that Ukraine has been killing with impunity for a decade?
So Russia decides to stop the killing and take their own pound of flesh and suddenly Ukraine is balling to the world about sovereignty???

You should realize that that is a fraudulent statement. Russian propaganda has used total (50/50 each side) as those on its captured territory as killed by Ukrainians.
Now ask the Netherlands about the plane filled with Dutch citizens that the Russians knocked out of the sky.
