That is approaching the kind of total number the 1st and 3rd Armor killed in the battle of 73 Easting.

which is why those numbers aren’t believable on day 1 of the offensive.

NATO doctrine is not to throw a bunch of tanks into a wall.

I would imagine Ukraine is doing recon in force or other hit and run tactics to probe for a response and check for a weakness. Or even to pin down reserves in an area. If nothing else, the chaos of reported attacks all along the front overwhelms an HQ to determine what is a probe and what is a real attack. Most of the time the size of an attack on either side is over stated due to fog of war and human nature

It will be a few days to a week+ before we get an idea what is really going on. Since we are getting updates from Russian milbloggees then we will only get the view from Russian glasses.

Once the Russian milbloggers resemble the rant on a bad game day, then we will know Ukraine is truly succeeding.

Right. UA is not going to commit a bunch of tanks into a single offensive action on the first day of the offensive.

BREAKING: Romanov--

<<06/06/2023
New Kakhovka, Kherson region, Russia.

Fighters from the field report:

The Armed Forces of Ukraine blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. There is a strong flooding downstream of the Dnieper.>>

The only ones who can feasibly benefit from this are the Russians since it will prevent Ukranians from conducting an amphibious assault on the Dnipro;s left bank. I highly doubt the Ukrainians destroyed their country. If this is true, it is one of the greatest war crimes since WWII.

Nothing at this stage suggests that these reports are true.

again not the big attack, this is to draw reinforcements to the area for the real one, watch ru troops reinforce or break and run. either way it will soak up and "FIX" units in place that cant move. for something else

I don't believe this given all the hand-wringing over F16s.

So, this is THE big dam at Nova Kakhovka (and also, with the Antinovsky Bridge at Kherson destroyed, the only remaining road or bridge across the Dnipro).

If the dam has been fully blown, then yes, much of southern Kherson Oblast will significantly flood.

Here's an elevation map from back when we were worried about this in the fall, back when Russia still controlled Kherson.

That would take out many Russian positions in southern Kherson Oblast. This will cause an immediate logistical nightmare for Russian forces in the area, as they will have to race to move all their equipment out of the path of the rising water. Some ammunition stores, etc. might not get cleared out. So, that's a huge negative for Russia.

On the other hand, it does make a pontoon river crossing across the Dnipro south of the dam impossible. So, that would seem to be a negative for Ukraine.

But ... the flooding downstream might also make a crossing upstream of the dam easier. This what what I have previously suggested that Ukraine might do, and this will be easier now, as the river will become smaller here and easier to cross.

I have seen a few reports without imagery that a Lancet hit a Leopard.

This is the closest I've found
quote:

#1 Screenshot from the Leopard-2 documentary.
#2 Screenshot from the lancet video, that destroyed a Ukrainian Leopard-2.

It's very strange that they looks very similar ??, I don't have explanation why.

This is still a new source for me so I'm not sure of its legitimacy

Inconclusive video at link

Russians have published a video of what they claim is the destroyed Nova Kakhovka Damn across the Dnipro River in Ukraine.

This moves the reports from "possible" to "likely."

Still no confirmation from official Ukrainian sources.
