Its also hilarious watching people paint NATO as this insidious organization with its headquarters on skull island led by the evil US who does nothing but pray on the helpless, innocent, and wronged Russia

These geniuses never for a second stop to think that they are talking about independent countries with millions of people who have their own agency and have made the choice that they want closer ties to the west and the US

These same people love to use "WhAt WoUlD tHe UsA dO iF mExIcO oR cAnAdA fOrMeD aN aLlIaNcE wItH rUsSiA" without taking the second to think about why that has never happened and why basically every single country in the old eastern block desperately wants to join the West

It has become especially egregious, as exemplified by muppets like Tracey, who apparently believe that only things the US does is worthy of criticism/analysis/reporting. It is so fricking boring.

"Blame America First" used to be something that the Left did. Now, it's increasingly a feature of the far Right.

Those Russian cops better not stand still too long else they’ll find themselves in a trench a few miles away.

Again, there were two embargoes before the oil embargo. Neither of the two previous efforts worked to stop Japanese aggression.

That’s my point. Embargos don’t curb aggression! Embargos make aggression NECESSARY! The embargos made Japan realize that they were dependent upon resources with supplies that were subject to political whims not their own. Those supplies were now in jeopardy, and they could not defeat China without them (I don’t think they could have defeated China with them either, tbh).

My argument: if Japan didn’t have to worry about embargoes from Western nations, they wouldn’t have needed to attack western colonies to get access to those resources.

Your argument: we had embargoed them before and they got more aggressive!

You don’t realize that you’re actually arguing my point for me.

You fricking moron. Japan aggression had gone on 8 years without interruption, including an attack on a US Navy ship, ransacking US property in Nanking, and slapping a US consul. That occurred before any embargo took place. You are spouting nonsense

Oh my fricking god. You fricking idiot. The Japanese high command realized this in 1931, you mouth-breathing moron. And realized it repeatedly well before these embargoes.

Except they had plans to attack those colonies before any embargoes were put in place. Please read that carefully. Before 1938, the Japanese had designs on all of Southeast Asia and saw conflict with the US as inevitable. Read that again slowly to yourself.

You are so stupid it beggars belief.

No, you are just wholly ignorant of the topic at hand, which isn't unusual, and are ignoring what the Japanese themselves have said and their actions well before 1938. They were aggressive before the embargoes and they were aggressive after. You don't know what you are talking about and are going to double-down because you are deeply committed to being a dumbass. Read a book.

They are in perpetual panic about something. "Look, Squirrel!", and then it's on to something else to panic over for 5 minutes.

I often wonder how many of them are on some sort of government paid welfare, be it disability or other.

There are some days I wish I wasn't the sort to read every post to check for new information.

This is one of those days (actually it's approaching 2).

Edit: Clarity

It's a sure sign Russia is losing when the troll brigade shows up and hangs around.

I always go back to my last spot in the thread and skim forward looking for informative posts. You can always tell how much BS is in between by the number of pages added.

I think UAF reads this thread. They saw the trolls and PT loons return and said “it’s time. Hold my vodka and watch this.” [charges into Russia]

This has to be real, it aligns with all my preconceived biases. Also, a guy's podcast I follow mentioned this on his last show.

The Japan discussion while not specifically relevant to the thread was very interesting.

It was more the personal mud being thrown that my comment pertained to.

I generally do the same in terms of going back to my last post, but then the diligent part of my brain stops me from scrolling in case there is some nugget to find. Stupid brain

I apologize. When I wrote, earlier today:

quote:

We forced Japan to attack us at Pearl Harbor because of our oil embargo.

I had no idea that someone would try to actually defend the Japanese. I thought I was making a reductio ad absurdum point.
