Wagner took several more blocks in Bakhmut today. Though Ukraine has been making progress in pushing back Russian forces on the flanks, I think it's fair to say that Wagner will complete the capture of Bakhmut before Ukraine can stop it via flanking -- unless Ukraine does something more dramatic and inserts one of its new mechanized brigades into the area.
The weather is supposed to be sunny and dry across the front this week. When I looked yesterday, there was no rain in the forecast anywhere except some showers around Kherson this weekend. It's a good time to start the offensive.

I almost always support the justices no matter their ideology from Whizzer and Nino to RBG and was very vocal on the election board when people were trying to drown the new textualists like baby Moses. That said while there might be zero impropriety if what has been reported is remotely true the appearance of impropriety is significant.

Neither France nor the UK uses F-16's if memory serves me correctly.

BS.

No one questioned the discord leaks. Unless you’re referring to russias crude copy and paste over the KIA numbers?

Lots of chatter out and about on heavy missile launches on Kyiv this evening along with claims a Patriot battery located there was targeted and possibly hit.
Nothing concrete beyond a few cut up videos showing lots of launches going out and a possible incoming explosion so I won't post anything yet until more is shared.

We may not know for a while. If Russia really hit a Patriot battery, I don't expect Ukraine to admit it.

Most likely, nor do I think Ukraine would confirm if it was destroyed, though in some respects if they don't say anything it is an indicator towards it not being good news.
At this point it is hot off the press and most of the information is noise though.

Russia hit the Kyiv Zoo.

I get the sneaking suspicion that all of Russia's recent (as in the last 3 months) missile barrages... especially the ones attempting to target Patriot batteries... are going to wind up biting them in the arse really soon. The fact that Ukraine is just dealing with the strikes from a defensive posture is giving Russia a false sense of security. With each salvo - They are creating a ton of data points that I don't think will remain unchecked forever.
I am not a student of military tactics - So correct me if my thinking doesn't jive here: Either at the same time the counteroffensive kicks off or shortly thereafter - I could see Ukraine finally initiating a response by targeting the ships, airfields and static batteries on Russian soil and occupied areas en masse. They have had plenty of time to develop the long-range droves required for this... and likely have a few other things socked away waiting for the right time. Russia would have so much of its focus on Ukraine's forces heading East and South that they may find themselves vulnerable to ordinance heading North.

I don’t think anyone in the thread has said they believe it. It is more likely that it’s a Ukrainian psyop to create friction in the Russian ecosystem and possibly take out the head of Wagner

Air defence downs all Russian missiles and drones flying over Ukraine overnight, including 6 Kinzhal missiles
Iryna Balachuk — Tuesday, 16 May 2023, 08:33
The Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with 18 missiles of various types and a number of Shahed drones on the night of 15-16 May, with all Russian targets shot down by the defenders.

No, they’re both capable of producing their own—Rafales and Typhoons. Sounds more like primary flight training, similar to our Euro program at Sheppard AFB. They can do their type training in Poland or somewhere like that.

I sure hope Ukraine has a sufficient stock of air defense missiles they’re keeping quiet. Russia seems content with hammering them even without success.

I'm trying to fathom the ROI on launching 6 of the most modern missiles in their inventory and just killing a couple of buses.
ETA: According to Wikipedia, the Kinzhal missile costs $4M each. Russia just spent $24M to destroy some Ukrainian busses.

I’m sure those number are at least slightly inflated, but if they’re even remotely accurate those losses are insane for what has essentially been no real success to date.
Posted on 5/16/23 at 2:19 am to TigersSEC2010
Some Ukrainian sources have Russian casualties in and around Bakhmut at 100,000 alone.
