Getting a lot of dead Ivan's between now and Christmas when HIMARS gets closer in range in Mariupol.
Ukraine will want revenge for all the dead civilians there.

Let’s wait until confirmation on Kherson. I saw on Twitter that a Ukrainian advisor to Zelenskyy say there are still Russian units in the city and plan to fight it out but we’ll see.
Of course, some Russian units are going to fight and try to protect as many of their men and equipment as possible, to see how much they can safely get across the river.
But, in general, I'm not going to be on the competency and bravery of those retreating forces. The smart bet is on an uncontrolled rout and large groups of surrendering troops. We'll see.

All those billboards in Kherson proclaiming that "Russia is here forever!"
and they went to all the bother of having a faux annexation just six weeks ago and now they're saying goodbye to some of the new motherland.

How an army withdraws is important to watch…. In august 1914 the German army took massive amounts of territory in Belgium and northern France, but the French and BEF withdrawals were generally orderly and troops/equipment weren’t left behind. That set the stage for the battle of the Marne that change the entire course of the war.
Russia has had every opportunity to make this an organized, orderly withdrawal from the west bank in Kherson… will be interesting to see what takes place.

Putin says people in southeastern Ukraine now are going to live in "their true historical fatherland."
"I want the Kyiv government and their real bosses in the west to hear me ... Residents of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson are becoming our citizens forever."

The weather forecast in Kherson shows nice weather with practically no rain until November 22. The day with the highest chance of a shower is 15% -- perfect for advancing troops.

If true this is a shot to the bear's soul. Russia just got ran out of Russia.

Once again, Wagner Group openly discussing subjects the state denies or remains mum about. Fascinating.

Meanwhile on the poliboard, some are taking it better than others
quote:
They are pulling out because the Ukrainians have been trying to destroy the Dnieper Dam and are achieving success. As a military bridgehead, Kerson is useless if the dam goes. Any troops would be cut off. Until the dam is secure, Kherson no longer has any military value and evacuation is militarily logically. Politically, looks bad. The Ukrainians will claim victory but the victory is due to damaging the dam and not a military conquest.

I know you're a Solovyov stan, so you'll get a kick out of him trying to say all Russian men need military training or they'll lose their country to the west as if NATO is about to try to roll into Moscow.
I admit to being fascinated by the guy.
He had an elite English grade school education. The got an undergrad and masters from Russias equivalent of MIT* in metallurgy then went on to get multiple PhDs in the econmoics/political area from another top Russian uni while teaching physics and math at his old secondary school. Then got into TV. Being the Russian renaissance man he is he actually he is a classical singer and released a couple of albums but I haven't been able to find anywhere to stream them. He is someone that learned to capitalize on capitalism in a socialist country. In reality, he is an actor and probably deserves some Oscars. I am also convinced he believes nearly nothing that comes out of his mouth on the record kinda like the prosperity preachers.
He is the kind of guy I would like to have a beer or vodka with. Most political talking heads are ultimately vapid and certainly couldn't discuss creep vs fatigue or plastic vs elastic deformation and in the next breath start comparing and contrasting economic models in various countries.
* by MIT I mean being considered elite in the country, it is not as good as the best US engineering schools in metallurgy and not on the same playing field as the top Chinese metallurgy/material science universities, which are by far the best in the world in those areas.

I think 75% of the opposition to Ukraine among the nutjob right is simply garden variety anti-Semitism. Because Zelensky is Jewish.
Because, of course, everyone knows that there's a secret Jewish conspiracy to control the world.

I think you are probably right.
It is interesting how much antisemitism has emerged from the far right. There have been multiple examples of it since the war started.
