Russia is nowhere close to becoming a super power.

Would you know that without this current conflict?

That's right, only then specify when it happened.
When "trains of friendship" went to the Donbass with cuttings from shovels and Molotov cocktails. Crimea was about to secede from Ukraine. From that moment on, the "green men" appeared. no one had seen them before.

Wagner Forces were used in the Donbass along with unmarked Russian forces.
There was no Wagner there, and there were no "unmarked" ones either.
They appeared after February 24 and you can see what happened when they appeared.
Well, think for yourself why "unmarked" sit and 8! endure shelling for years and take nothing in return?
For all 8 years, Ukraine has declared that it is at war with the Russian Federation, and the Russian Federation has said that it is not there.

Read my post again. I'm not sure I wrote it right. I'll try the same in other words.

The EU just committed to buying 2/3 less raw petroleum from Russia. Looks like the pressure is coming from all sides.
But Ukraine has some nice goodies on the way and more troops entering the fray. I'd tell France and Germany to frick off (for now)
And you write that China licks its lips at Russian energy?
Everything that the EU refuses to buy is automatically bought by China. And with each purchase, it becomes in a more advantageous competitive position. his products are cheaper.
As a result, who is the EU doing worse by refusing cheap oil and gas?

The term also sometimes used to refer to Russian troops during the War in Donbas, as the Kremlin denied their official involvement or presence of their troops, and they wore unmarked uniforms or disguised themselves as pro-Russian separatists

Because they are paid soldiers doing what they are told...or are you actually saying you belive Russia had zero people on the ground in Donbas until recently?

At that point Scholz, Orban and Macron will show their true colors. While publically continuing to 'send thoughts and prayers' (and little else) to the Ukrainians, in private meetings they will threaten to split the EU / NATO coalition in order to force the Ukrainians to negotiate. This will keep Putin from showing the world press the records of their past bribery.
The problem with this scenario is that the Ukrainians, Americans, English, Poles, Romanians, Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians won't buy it. The Ukrainians don't need anyone's permission to keep fighting and Scholz and Macron don't have the stones to force the split. Their faction will be isolated and the public pressure on them will build. Eventually the dirt Putin has on them will be released by 'non-Russian' sources.
This will be an interesting, but problematic course of events.

I agree but for Ukraine to sustain the fight they have to get more help from the west. It is apparent that they need more heavy artillery and munitions and it doesn't seem to be getting there. I think eventually Ukraine will be forced to the negotiating table because it isn't getting the support that it needs.
Here is a short video by Times Radio with British General Tim Cross and they discuss this very issue regarding France and Germany. Very good program.

It feels like we just sustained an overnight Russian counter-offensive right here.
Back to actual war news, it is apparent that Russia continues to pour basically everything into a single objective at extremely high cost. The winds may change quickly if the cost is as high as reported.

Here is what I think happens:
Putin is going for broke on the capture of Sievierodonetsk and Luhansk for two reasons: 1. Another major city has fallen/ propaganda( Russia played the fall of Mariupol up big). He is banking on Russia's advance in Donbass to change the information narrative regarding the war. And it is working.
2. He is setting up the conditions for negotiations as from the point of strength. With the information narrative changing now, and unless it reverses pretty quickly I believe that support from the west will decrease. Biden has already backed off of sending the rocket systems. And then we will see pressure from the afore mentioned players (Germany and France) to force Zelenski to negotiate. If he eventually gives up territory for peace, his numbers will plummet and severely weaken his government. Russia in a short time/a few years will eventually take it all. Europe again will prove that it is unwilling to sacrifice or pay the costs for its own security. As long as America is willing to do it for them.
