I would discuss options with your SO and sister amd maybe a priest (but that's just me) before making any decisions.

Maybe they’re swingers? Best case scenario.

Maybe Mom has a side piece you don't know about.

Your mom probably already knows...

Really? You can't figure out why this would bother someone?

A similar thing is going on with my aunt and her father, which led to a double reveal: he has early stages of dementia and the whore is taking advantage of it. Since he texted that to you, I wouldn’t rule this out as happening either given his age.

no, I'm pretty sure my dad takes that prize.

Tell him he is a piece of shite deserving of unrelenting scorn if he doesn’t stop it now.

what did the text to you, meant for her say?

Plot twist: your parents are swingers

ok, this is interesting. my sister, husband and I, as well as other family members have been talking about how bad my dad's memory has been for a while. Seriously, like he'll tell us something and not 10 minutes later tell us the exact same thing again, and we're like, yeah, you just told us that a few minutes ago. and he looks totally puzzled.

This is between them. You can't see the forest through the trees right now because, like a woman, you're too guided by your emotions.
Remove emotions from it and you'll be able to see logic/reason.
Logic and reason says, this shite is between them. Stay out of it. You have absolutely zero clue as to what has transpired in those 50 years of marriage. Hell, your mom could be fine with it and had probably gotten dick on the side. Or like many married women, quit giving up the pussy. And quit trying to play some martyr card by bringing your son into it.
Why the frick would your dad bring his side piece around your son? Your son is 7. In 7 years has your dad bought his slampiece around his grandkid?
You stand to lose out on your inheritance for what? What if you found out your mom got railed many years back by the pool boy? Then what?
Honestly, who gives a shite? Side pieces are way more rampant than most believe.
Just move on and keep your mouth shut.

So they have been together all of their adult lives. Your mom is all he has ever known. It is very common behavior for those in similar situations to want to see what else is out there
ETA: or he has dementia or you're getting punk'd (my favorite possible outcome)

That is horrible and an awful burden to bear. I would discuss options with your SO and sister amd maybe a priest (but that's just me) before making any decisions. It's a lot to process. And I don't blame you for cutting him off. Putting you in this position is inexcusable.
Jesus fricking Christ...

I think there are several ways to play this but are you positive your mother does not know?
How old is the side piece?
How old is the side piece?

That sucks. I hate to hear people throwing away something like a 50 year marriage for a piece of arse they have absolutely nothing invested in.

This wouldn’t have crossed my mind until my aunt told us that last Thanksgiving, but I’d look into that.

Umm no it's not common behavior for someone that is married for 50 years to see what else is out there. That is ridiculous.
