The Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) collaboration has announced the discovery of three new exotic particles.

Exotic particles, such as these, had only been theorized but not observed until recently. These exotic particles are built out of quarks.

“Like proton or neutrons, the particles that make up the nucleus of the atom, these new particles are made up of quarks”, explained Chris Parkes, Professor of Experimental Particle Physics at The University of Manchester. “However, protons and neutrons are made of three quarks, whereas exotic particles are made of four or five quarks”.

“Finding exotic particles and measuring their properties will help theorists develop a model of how these particles are built, the exact nature of which is largely unknown,” according to Professor Parkes. “It will also help to better understand the theory for conventional particles such as the proton and neutron.”

I forgot they were firing up that Russian Roullete black hole machine again today.

Interesting.

The standard model is not so standard.

Wish they'd just go ahead and open the black hole already

Like anyone could even know that

I'm leaning towards this as well.

I just don't trust the scientific community to be honest, not overstate and/or oversell what they "observe".

It's the 2020s, non-standard is the standard of the day.

new exotic particles

This is what scientists observed under their electron microscopes.

The real question is how do these exotic particles self-identify?

I find it particalphobic to label them as exotic.

It is both charming and strange they found new particles made of quarks. Glad they are on top of it and getting to the bottom of the mysteries of the universe. As our knowledge goes up our ignorance goes down.
