You probably knew my uncle, Marion LaNasa. He recently retired after finishing his entire career with Martin Marietta. I didn’t know you worked there.

NASA=Need Another Seven Astronauts

I recall thinking back then as a kid how funny this was. It’s good to grow up.

That display at KSC with the Challenger fuselage and Columbia cockpit windows is really one that hits you in the gut. I didn’t realize they were there until we saw them.

On the flip side, when they raise the video screen and reveal Atlantis? Goosebumps, awe inspiring.

I was outside Homestead Sr. High School in south Florida in the student smoking area. From that part of the state, all you could see on a daytime launch was the vapor trail. When we saw the trail split, we were all saying how cool it was to see the booster engine separate. None of us had seen that before. We were wrong.

I was in first grade. I don't think it was the first shuttle launch I had seen, but definitely the first I remember well.

We were in class and they had rolled the TV in on the cart for us to watch. Almost every grade was watching cause of the teacher on board.

Sad day.

Sadly, they died on impact, or if you want to believe the conspiracies, they drowned.

All survived the explosion, ride up... And down until they got to water. It's hard to think of a more terrifying way to go knowing it's a one way trip.

My mother was a finalist for teacher in space. Went through all kinds of training.

She had a news crew in her classroom watching it live.

I saw it from the 6th floor of an office Building on International Drive. The girl I was dating had brother who was a reporter from Boston covering the launch because of Christa and was in the VIP stands. We went over that night to visit him. His story of what it was like to view it with the families nearby, and just the somber surreal feeling of everything in Cocoa that night is still something that feels like yesterday, not 35 years ago.

I was a sophomore in HS and remember how excited the teachers at school were that one of their own was going up. The shock in the classroom when it blew up, then the tears. Sad day indeed.

Was in 9th grade science class and my teacher(Wille Butch Haynes III, yes he was black) let out a quote that I never forgot " I am serious as a heart attack and twice as deadly as cancer" when he told us that Challenger had just blown up. Never forgot that quote and that day.

We’re y’all watching live because of the teacher in space thing? Can’t imagine that. I too was about 7th grade. We weren’t watching. I bet there were a lot of teachers making that slow walk to the TV or scrambling for the remote. To shite that shite off when they realized that wasn’t a standard booster separation.

There's no way anyone survives a sudden impact like that.
