It’s not like she has nowhere else to go, her mom is literally next door
If I couldn’t pay rent I’d move in with my parents, not be an arse about it

I understand that not everyone has that option but a lot of people are getting screwed because people don’t want to go to work

So should the landlord be responsible?

Cant stand this attitude.

From experience I can tell you once a tenant is "monthS" late on rent, you're not getting shite.

Better to get them out asap.

These entitled people that think they just dont have to pay rent astonishes me.

What kind of a-hole landlord removes somebody's front door in this kind of weather?

The kind that legally can’t evict right now due to a CDC moratorium
Ends 12/31 & a lot more people will be out on their arse if it’s not extended

Nov article where LA landlords are suing for right to evict

How is removing the door considered an eviction by the attorney?

It’s not an eviction. I posted something very similar a few years back. My brother used to patrol SE in Houston with HPD. There was a landlord that did the exact same thing. He designed the doors to be removed from the outside. He had a lock of some type that prevented others from doing it. He would send a crew of 3 big guys over to remove a door for nonpayment of rent. Courts cost money and it drug out a few months to evict. His leases stated he could remove doors for non payment.

My brother said people were pissed but either paid rent or moved quickly. Funny shite.

When you have kids you do what it takes to take care of them
Just because the restaurant she worked at was closed doesn’t mean there wasn’t another job available for her to get in the last 9 months

When she couldn’t pay rent she could have let the apt go & move next door

She had options, she choose to frick her landlord because she could

We have got to stop siding with tenants over private property disputes. It’s absolute communism. You pay your rent or you GTFO.

These situations usually have an other side of the story untold. If she was a great tenant for 3 years and all of a sudden missed a payment then It doesn’t sound reasonable that the landlord responded this way...but then again there are legit jerks out there that give landlords a bad name. I have several rentals and I just had the first one past due. I went to speak to them about it because apparently their IPhone 12 was acting up and they hadn’t received my messages.

the landlord is no longer providing a functional home.

Her anger should be directed at the politicians that shut down her industry, not with the landlord. The landlord isn’t getting a break on the mortgage. The bank still wants their note every month. Where’s the government think he’s going to get his mortgage payment if they allow tenants to skip out on rent?

She’s doing just fine.

Her GFM is over $5k outta $2500

Is this where we hypothesize that the tenant and landlord are in this together for the GFM cash? I’ve heard worse schemes.

If she had chosen to do that, he probably would've been more lenient and not taken the door.

I feel awful for all the landlords sitting helpless unable to collect rent or evict people
They still have to make loan payments to their lender

Yep it’s a tough moral quandary and the landlord sounds like a prick but at the same time they have liabilities to pay too and you have a right to somebody else’s stuff without paying for it. Blame the politicians that did this to everyone not the "evil" landlord.
