Maybe I’m not getting it, but her house looks lower than the new street. If they fill in her yard and driveway, will it not slope down towards her house? How are they planning to fix that so that water doesn’t flow down towards her house?

That is an amazing level of incompetence.

Is it, though?

The entire area is sinking. The city's responsibility is for the roadways. They need to be to the proper height.

The city doesn't have any responsibility for the front yards and driveways. The fact that those are sinking, is the responsibility of the homeowners.

The alternative is the city builds a shitty street that always floods and breaks.

Of course, if the locals didn't overpay for their homes there, they would have the money to raise their homes/yards/driveways.

Edit: And it seems like the city is going to pay to do this work for them, anyways. So, why are we complaining?

For as much money as people pay to live in Lakeview, you'd think they wouldn't have to put up with so much shite.

if her house turns out to be lower than the new street...well...

Doesn’t really seem like that big of a deal as long as there is a plan for the drainage (yard drain stub-ins).

Roads can be higher than houses. Off the top of my head the homes off the north side of Perkins between Staring and Bluebonnet are well below the road.

Sold my house in Lakeview 3 or 4 yrs ago, very close to the street theyre discussing in the OP’s article.. You wouldn’t believe me if i told you all the issues we had living there.. for starters, my first Sewerage & Water Board bill, for our first two months in the house, was $1700.. and it only got worse from there...... SO glad to be out.

Easy fix. Just slope the driveway up to the road across the utility right of way.

It's not the right way but it is a way to fix it.

And then flood the shite out of your house when it rains hard.

How does that even happen....

Everyone associated with that job needs to be fired. Even the $8 an hour guy pouring the concrete knows what is going on here. My guess is the city engineer ever visited the work, which should get him/her fired.

False, they have responsibility to not create problems when they make major changes to their roadways. They're going to have to bring in huge amounts of soil and replace a lot of landscaping for people.

Someone earlier implied it was this lady's fault for not reading the notice, but that's poor project management. Seeing how much this lady is affected, the city should have been holding her hand along the way. The whole thing screams incompetence.

- if they didn't have yard drains on the plans,

- and if the new roadway is indeed constructed to the correct elevation,

- and if and no one approached her beforehand about having to fill in her yard outside of the city right of way,

THEN it's a pretty safe bet they only noticed this during construction.
