or they're going to have to tear up everyone's yard to get it level, which will also just basically create a path for flooding.

Why would re-grading the yards create a path for flooding?

Yeah, but how long were you incovenienced?

Several weeks.

They have already experienced that part of the inconveience when the road was being "fixed." This is going to be quite a while. Possibly years.

And you base your time frames on what exactly?

well i'm assuming they're not going to build a new drainage system

that slope will still slope down to her house. unless they're going to do some major foundation work and raise everyone's house up, that water will flow down

I'm thoroughly enjoying living a block off of audubon park with no flooding and very minimal, if any, crime

Hell yeah, very nice part of town if not the nicest. The females around that area are some of the most prime. Lived off Freret right around there while in grad school

Why? If it's cheaper to re-grade 6 yards instead of redoing however much subsurface drainage, why can they not go with the cheaper alternative?

lnchbox and i are saying they'll regrade her entire yard to slope down to the street. that's why he was saying he's assuming (hoping) her house is higher that the street, so that this can be accomplished.

if her house turns out to be lower than the new street...well...

Everyone, in the affected area, was given notice about this and it looks like a handful of people complaining were the ones that failed to read the notice sent to them. They will raise the peoples property up much like they did in Jefferson parish after Katrina. They had to raise the roads that high for proper drainage.

Sure. If that were the case, shouldn't they have known that when they were doing the work and included it as part of the work?

Well, the work isn't complete, so why do you say it wasn't?

Number one rule in paving & drainage design, never trap water behind the curb.

The main slope issues will be the sidewalks parallel to the street and leading up to the street, which are dictated by ADA. Any cross slope cannot exceed 2%, and longitudinal slopes cannot exceed 12H:1V (approx 8%). To meet those, the sidewalk will be higher than her yard. Now water is trapped behind the sidewalk and in her yard
