Lakeview road rebuilt more than foot higher than residents' driveways

There is a video in the article that shows the street so much higher than the driveway. Poor people... how can the contractors/city be so incompetent... I'm sure the 87 year old Mrs. Redmann dosent drive a lifted F150 to get her out of her driveway

quote:
About a half dozen homes on the street now find themselves up to 1 1/2 feet below the new raised roadway.
quote:
"I questioned them when they built this so high, and I was told it's because I'm the lowest part of the street," Lakeview neighbor Evelyn Redmann said. Redmann's yard is now about 18 inches lower than the road in front of her house.
quote:
"I'm really concerned about severe flooding here because it can't get to the drain," Redmann said. "Right now, my land is so much lower than the street."

The 87-year-old has lived in the 200 block of 22nd street since 1965.

Settlement will take care of that in no time....
ETA: If the below is the case, it's really a non issue if the work is done in a reasonable amount of time.
But homeowners should absolutely have been notified of the plan and the schedule,so I'm sure it's a shitshow.

"The City is aware of this issue. The roadway on 22nd Street was raised to accommodate both the required slope for positive drainage as well as the existing shallow water lines," the statement said.
"DPW is in the process of verifying the new elevations to ensure that the roadway was constructed to the design elevation. The front yards and driveways that have been affected will be corrected and filled to accommodate the new grade of the roadway as part of this project."

What a joke of a city. Very fun to visit, but I dont think I could ever live in that shite hole again.

That is an amazing level of incompetence.

Basically, they built it clearly too high to avoid relocating the water lines deeper.....
In reality, I'm assuming they enlarged the subsurface drainage and had to raise the road bed to provide the proper flow line and coverage. How they got to this point without the issue being known is laughable, though. The engineers and/or surveyors did a piss poor job if this was built to the plans.

At least they can park on the raid when their houses flood.

Easy fix. Just slope the driveway up to the road across the utility right of way.
It's not the right way but it is a way to fix it.

Her shite is low. That’s her problem. Are you going to let a street flood because one resident has a low driveway? They’ll come back and slope it to the sidewalk so she will have access. If it holds water they might even tap into the drain line and put an inlet drain. People are so dramatic. This is the news sensationalizing a nothing burger.

I'm going to assume the elevation of the homes is higher than the new roadway, so tearing out the existing yards and driveways and filling the area and then rebuilding the yards and driveways.

a. that's going to be a pretty massive slope and may cause flooding
b. how the frick does she get in/out of her driveway for the 2 years it will take to do that?
