I hear it daily on loud speakers and it certainly annoys me.

Why do some white folks get so upset over the fact that blacks can use the N word yet they can’t?

I couldn’t care less who uses it or how society judges its use

Cant speak for every white person, but for me, its selective censorship of what has become a pop culture word. Radio rarely even censors it anymore. Yet only one group of people can say it without being "permitted" by that same group of people. The real story is that they dont even realize how backwards they are about it. They're more proud of ownership of the word than they are disappointed that's its used. Like they won something. With so many losses piled up over time i guess you take any perceived win you can.

That should’ve been a traffic citation - if anything.

What other words should get the same treatment?

there's another group that you don't even have to call a slur, you just negatively speak poorly of their group and they will use the full force of two governments to take you down

This case will be interesting. They were saying the word over a megaphone so it could be heard outside the confines of their frat house, but they were on their property. The charge was for disturbing the peace. Pretty minor charge. The big penalty was the release of names and pictures along with hometowns. They will have to leave LaTech.

The individuals who were arrested. The statute won't hold up to a higher court's review.

I would absolutely take that bet, yes. That statute would easily survive an as applied challenge in the instant case.

If these two kids get the right legal counsel, this is going to be a mess for the city’s police department and the university.

At most, the kids should have been ticketed for disturbing the peace - not arrested and perp walked.

The city and the university way overstepped, likely due to the urgency to do something now…which usually ends up being a poor decision.

I have heard 100x worse in the local Walmart parking lot…..way, way, way worse.

I’m sure the white folks who were arrested are probably a tad upset that a double standard landed them in jail.

Not that I condone their behavior, but we should all be upset with unequal enforcement of the law.

They were arrested for Disturbing the Peace. If you concede that charge is appropriate, it’s utterly up to police discretion as to whether they get a summons or get arrested.
