Two people were arrested Monday following an incident involving racial slurs at a fraternity house at Louisiana Tech University.
...arrested...and charged with disturbing the peace – loud & abusive language.

They went with the hard r?
Posted on 10/1/26 at 12:32 pm to Witty_Username
Will they be arresting others who regularly, and quite loudly, yell that same certain slur repeatedly, some might say compulsively, on a daily basis?

Hard R
And they arrested them on a qualifier of the disturbing the peace statute for using a voice amplification device. They did it on a speaker from their truck.

I find it interesting how I see posts on here every day claiming that black people are dumber than elephants (to name one thing I saw just today), among other racist things. Yet I don't see the n word on here. That word seems to be where the people on the board draw the line on civility.

Are the people you're referring to using a loudspeaker to broadcast it to taunt others?

You must have missed the scholars lectures on social media explaining why it’s perfectly ok for one group to shout it from the rooftops, but YT’s doing it, cardinal sin.

A video containing the racial slurs was shot from a parking lot next to a parking garage at Louisiana Tech University on West Mississippi Avenue. In the video, one person repeatedly shouted the racial slur over a loudspeaker.
I mean... that sounds like Disturbing the Peace to me
ETA: See Subsection (A)(2):
quote:
§103. Disturbing the peace
A. Disturbing the peace is the doing of any of the following in such manner as would foreseeably disturb or alarm the public:
(2) Addressing any offensive, derisive, or annoying words to any other person who is lawfully in any street, or other public place; or call him by any offensive or derisive name, or make any noise or exclamation in his presence and hearing with the intent to deride, offend, or annoy him, or to prevent him from pursuing his lawful business, occupation, or duty; or

If it was the dreaded “n word”…I would appreciate equal application of the standard in this regard to all groups

So is riding around with music blaring saying the same word over and over and over....
... and why I'm at it why must they sit at a gas station with that shite blaring?

Go to any Walmart, and they could fill the paddy wagon up in a minute for people being loud and using the N-word.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will get me arrested

That would more likely be a sound ordinance violation.
Here, I'll bold the important bits:

Targetless language is, generally speaking, protected by the First Amendment.

Often times their car stereo speakers are much louder than a megaphone. So to answer your question, Yes they are.
Are you really trying to argue that there isn't extreme hypocrisy when it comes to the use of that word?

Were they singing a rap song?
