I understand why but I'd still like to see the language in the constitution as a source doc.

I noticed a lot of anger about this on Facebook but was put into the constitution in 1974.
MS is currently voting on no state income taxes and Texas doesn't have any. Will be interesting with Louisiana sandwiched in between to see what direction they go.

Can't forget JBE's gas tax hike that will go everywhere but roads as per the casino monies that were supposedly dedicated to education.

These are the people who will lecture everyone about taxes and government, yet don't even understand how their own relatively simple taxes work. It's glorious

Nothing to do with Edwards. Some of you guys can't give politics a rest.

That’s another reason I love living in Texas!! No state income tax

According to the Louisiana Constitution, when federal taxes go down, state income taxes automatically go up.
Clickbait. Fed income taxes are deductible so you'll pay more tax because you get less of a deduction. However, the tax rates stay exactly the same. Almost every state that has an income tax, this is going to be true.

You apparently don’t

I have no problem hating on the man, but this has absolutely nothing to do with John Bel.

This cannot be overstated. As someone else pointed out, this shows how bad people do not understand their taxes and either just blindly fill in the forms or have someone else do it for them without knowing the reasoning behind it.

Anyone that does not understand this really needs to read over their forms. I don't expect people to understand all the tax laws and nuances, but they should at the very least read the line items on the forms to know what affects their taxable income/rates.

One of the biggest welfare states doesn't want to raise taxes on itself? Shocked.

Much ado about nothing.
Most taxpayers in Louisiana will see an increase in their state income tax withholding of $2 or $3 a pay period at most.

Nickel and dimed and doesn't even care.

Louisiana will never get rid of state income taxes just like the causeway will never get rid of the toll. Too many pockets are used to getting greased in the good ole boy network.

Title is inaccurate. More correctly it should read, Federal Tax deduction decreases

Nothing changed. You're two options here are pay more federal income tax by probably $10/paycheck or pay less federal tax and more state tax at $2-3/paycheck.

If Mississippi does indeed elect to have no state income tax, Louisiana will have to look in the mirror and decide what to do? Many from Louisiana have been leaving for Texas for decades, will some go to Mississippi now? Although I'm not sure no state income tax is the deal breaker to make them leave.

Lol @ all the overreaction and hyperbole.
Part of the formula to calculate LA income tax factors in your federal tax liability. So if your federal liability goes down, your LA deduction goes up = higher state tax.
I hate JBE but it isn’t like this is a new tax or law. Just a natural result of the lower fed tax.
