Hopefully, you had a chance to enjoy that recent boost in your paycheck because it could be over already.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue reported Thursday that it has updated the state’s income tax withholding tables to compensate for changes in the federal tax law passed last year, meaning the state will take more tax money out of your check.
According to the Louisiana Constitution, when federal taxes go down, state income taxes automatically go up.
Officials with LDR said they have issued an emergency rule to make sure employers are withholding the right amount of state income taxes from their workers’ paychecks.
The updated withholdings took effect Friday.

We still pay the same 2%, 4% and 6% as we did before.
Since federal taxes have gone down, that lowers the amount we deduct from State Taxes. This adjusts your withholdings to cover that additional amount.
So for every hundred dollars extra you started taking home, this will reduce it by $2-$6.

Is there any way I can find out who we’re the “yays” and “nays” on this?

How the frick did that get into your constitution?
Posted on 2/16/18 at 11:01 am to SPEEDY
We knew this was coming... but this increase is minor in comparison to the benefits you are getting from the federal reduction.

No one saw this coming.
Sure you did if you knew anything about La. taxes.
Louisiana gives you a full deduction for all federal income taxes that you pay; consequently, the higher federal tax you pay in the bigger the deduction.
Thanks to Donald Trump, we are all getting taxed less, but in La. that means you have a smaller deduction; thus you will pay slightly more.
It's the reverse of someone paying more in property taxes due to a new millage. The more local property taxes you pay the bigger your federal deduction is; thus your federal tax goes does despite the local tax going up.
It makes sense.

It’s in the constitution

I find it more funny that so many of you are too stupid to understand why.

So you take home only $112 more per pay period instead of $120
