what we really need to know is the % of ADHD diagnoses that correspond with disability applications. i reckon if we had that data there would be some statistically significant data that we would uncover.

Health officials say Louisiana has the nations highest rate of ADHD diagnoses among children.

The report shows that Louisiana has the highest ADHD diagnosis rate in the nation among children ages 2-11 at 11 percent. The report, which covers 2010 to 2017, shows Louisiana also had the highest variation from the national average at 4.6 percent, and the top two metropolitan areas (MSAs) for diagnosis rate, with Baton Rouge at 11.6 and New Orleans at 10.5 diagnoses per 100 members, respectively.
quote:
Diagnosis rates are higher in the South and lower in the West, with a nearly three-fold difference between the rates of the highest and lowest states.
All states saw an increase in diagnosis rates of ADHD in children from 2010 to 2017 except North Dakota, which decreased 9% from 6.3 to 5.7.
ADHD is most prevalent among middle school-aged children (11-13 years old), and boys are diagnosed about twice as often as girls.
ADHD accounts for 16% of the impact all health conditions have on Generation Z (0-19 years old).

If they are all drinking at 10, they are all going to show up as suffering from ADHD because of the hangover.

I’m sure a significant percentage of that is people finding a doc to give the diagnosis so the kids can get a crazy check.
Low expectation having welfare motherfrickers will permanently damage their kids’ chances at success by telling them to act out at school so they can qualify for another handout.

Somehow, that doesn’t do anything to make it less shitty.

thats because parents feed their kids soft drinks and fast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Louisiana women drink more. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome symptoms resemble those of ADHD.
Add to that more pregnant smokers, and a higher population of unwed mothers with multiple undisciplined kids.

yeah that's what i was implying by the last sentence. i'm guessing there is a much higher correlation between ADHD diagnoses and disability applications in LA than in lower-rate states
this is why when people bitch about others leaving the sinking ship known as Louisiana claiming they should stay to "fix" Louisiana, i point out that when we're facing an underclass culture that has grown this large, there isn't a fix.

Sounds like an excuse for being 50th in education.

They don't call us the armpit of America for nothing.

I've seen this first hand. All the kids in a family have the "crazy check". 30% of a class,or more was that way.

it really is frustrating that these people will literally destroy their children's future entirely just to get a little more spending money. what's insane is that people pretend like this isn't happening or defend it

If you talk to social service types (barf), a lot of them pursue ADD meds for, um, certain children as a way to get them on par academically with their peers. It's basically cheating because the results of a fair competition are unpalatable.

That is one of the absolute best sour park episodes ever
