It's not really that hard to cheat anymore. Most exams are given through computers, students do not need to come to class anymore to take exams.

The computer exams have 'monitoring software' but there are ways to get around the camera systems.

My daughter's sophomore exams this year, only organic chem 1 & 2 and physics 1 & 2 required in-class exams. All other classes are online with online exams.

Last year's biology 1 & 2 exams were given online, she and her friends developed a group project of taking the exams. This year, the biology department changed and required in-class exams.

Yes. Three of my classmates got caught on a quiz - punishment was single letter grade reduction of their final grade. I don't think there was definitive proof, only very strong circumstantial evidence. Context - it's a graduate program with a mix of traditional and non-traditional students. Had it been a more significant event (test) outcome probably different, but who knows.

One more, in quirky turn of fate...The main witness in Garrison's JFK trial was BR insurance agent , Perry Russo. He had a friend enrolled at LSU. Apparently Russo took an exam for the friend. As a result of Russo's notoriety, this was recognized and the student expelled

I cheated on a portion of one exam in my life.

Differential equations class… the first 3-4 questions on the exams were multiple choice. Some involved matrices. I couldn’t help but see the test of guy next to me (who I thought was a really smart guy based on his questions and Professor interactions in class). Exams questions for everyone were all the same, and he had like 3 of 4 different answers than me on the opening multiple choice questions.

I felt I was under prepared for that portion of exam so I changed my answers. When the grades came back, I missed all the ones that I changed my answer on.

I was “cheating” off a dummy. Learned my lesson with quickness after that. Still ended up making an A in the class anyway at the end of semester.

It’s a lesson for the kids… cheating doesn’t pay

Caught? No. And I sat by that Asian kid in remedial math because we had common interests. Such as his ability to get the question right.

You chose poorly. Any Asian kid in remedial math has issues.

You sit by the 16 year old Asians in advanced calculus

Yes, southern law school. I never saw the girl again afterwards. She was a strange brew. I assumed she was on meth.

I took the CAC Certification online, the ones that took it on Camus said a lot of folks were pulling up google durong the exam and didn't realize there were cameras at the back of the computer labs. So a good bit of them were told to shut it down and leave.

Exam, no. I was accused of copying homework answers from Chegg one time so I got half credit. I had to go to the professor's office and show him where I had been doing a ton of scratch calculations on another sheet to eventually get the nice, neat solution that I turned in to get my points back.

I had a professor try to bring my up on plagiarism charges freshman year at LSU for have similar sentence structure to something from some book related to my topic.

I told the guy it's writing a book report about David Koresh and the Branch Davidians. How many ways can you recount that history to where it's not similar?

I did not put a footnote on the sentence to properly credit the author- not on a unique idea either mind you.

I had to end up rewriting the entire paper.

A guy in I had an accounting class with in my last semester (also his last semester) at LSU got caught cheating on some in class quizzes and didn't graduate a couple weeks later. I'm not exactly sure what the punishment was though.

I remember a dude cheated off of me in a physics final. I didn't rat him out. I dropped out that year and went to work as a fitter. A year or two later I ran in to him at the office trailer. He was a field engineer sitting in the AC while I was busting arse in the pipe racks. That really peeved me.

How would classmates copy work that has already been turned in?

Learned pretty quickly that there's a solid chance that the person next to you doesn't know the material any better than you.

In high school, I attempted to cheat on my civics test.

During study hall, I spent a great deal of time to make an elaborate tiny cheat sheet that I can take out of my pocket during the test.

However, while taking the test, I found that making the cheat sheet actually helped me study, and I aced the test without needing the cheat sheet.

There should have been gigantic red flags going off in your brain if you had an Asian kid in your remedial math class.

Went through Air Force tech school with a guy who got busted cheating at the Air Force Academy. He had three months left to graduate too. He had to serve his remaining commitment as an enlisted member instead of being an officer so he was stuck with us knuckleheads.

In my 4 years at the citadel I "knew" a handful of cadets that got thrown out of school for academic cheating. But the school has an honor code that reads "A cadet will not lie, cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do." That last part is the hardest.
