Kindergarten Graduation

I am seeing posts on Facebook of someone's child or grandchild getting ready to graduate from kindergarten. They are even wearing caps and gowns.
What is this nonsense? I mean what is the big deal that a kid spent a few months playing with blocks and creating refrigerator art?

Seems dumb but it isnt really worth bitching about. There's no harm in it. Let the parents and the kids have their joy in it and move along.

A: Why do you care if others want to have a playful celebration for their child?
B: Kindergarten graduations are stupid.

Both my girls had them, and that was 18 and 15 years ago, I can only imagine how over the top they are now

Bro...you think it's just easy breezy learning the ABC's, phonics, how to spell basic words, AND basic addition and subtraction as a five year old?!
Not to mention memorizing all the different shapes, seasons, and wrapping your mind around the concept of keeping time...
Sheesh. Tough crowd...

I went to a small country school. Just a few years before I was in junior high school they had eighth grade graduation ceremonies, but stopped before I made it that far. That makes more sense to me than kindergarten.

Laugh all you want. But half those kids will spend the rest of their life at a kindergarten reading level. Let their family celebrate the peak of their academic lives.

These kids graduate from a grade.. it seems like every few years. My nephew graduated from 5th grade because he was entering middle school next. WTF?
They also have awards given out every 9 weeks where they honor the kids and the parents go and there is all kind of bullshite awards they give out.
It might just be me, but I hate getting recognition. Its to the point it might be a flaw and maybe it helps kids confidence? But I also see how all of that shite makes these kids think they should be rewarded for everything. The reward should me... if they do what they are supposed to they are not going to have things taken away from them, etc. I think they called the kindergarten and 8th grade thing "crossover". The ultimate goal of grade school is to graduate. For 13 years you go to school so that you can graduate and move on to the next stage of life. They don't need to wear caps and gowns and all that bullshite.

I made a 30-yr career out of this.

In my town, the middle school and high school are separated by a ditch. When 8th graders graduate, they have a "crossing the ditch" ceremony

I can tell the majority of posters in here have no kids.
My youngest has hers soon. It’s special for her. I’ll be there to make her feel special and create those memories. If you’re a father and you tout the “I ain’t coming” you should do yourself a favor and let someone else raise that kid because you’re a huge piece of shite.
We told family they can come if they want. It’s not mandatory. Some of you frickers are some insufferable miserable assholes.

88 here. We definitely had one or the other at the little Christian school a lot of kids from my hometown went to for Pre-K and Kindergarten. This definitely isn’t anything new, but it does seem to be made a bigger event than it did 30 some odd years ago.

Sometimes I think I'm a miserable a-hole then I see dudes who are mad about kindergarten graduations and I feel like I'm John Denver

I graduated from a Baptist kindergarten in 1967.
I still remember going to grandma's in the country and catching lightning bugs afterwards.
