We stand a few times. We also kneel at times which means you see over the pew.

all of this just seems like old people/super parents bitching

Well it's not. And it's setting the bar pretty low if you qualify for super parent just because your 3 year old doesn't act like a monkey in church.

the part about the iPad is most certainly just old people/super parent bitching

it is just another tool, just like your little books to keep a child entertained for an hour

You miss this part of my post...?

I may not have understood every individual aspect, but I knew I needed to pay attention to what the priest was saying

How about you just pay attention to the reason you're there and STFU about what other people do?"

Settle down . Jeez- no need for this childish crap

Do you know any 3 year olds? No...they can't sit still for an hour. Why have them in church at that age anyway?

There is no fricking way a three year old is going to sit still and quiet for ten minutes, much less a fricking hour - particularly in a church. I truly cannot justify bringing them in there in the first place. They are not going to get anything out of what's going on, and at best it is a power struggle that will be a distraction to others. If you just GOT to take them to church, find one with a nursery.

Personally, after 50 years of church, I really cannot justify it anymore. Depending on the denomination, you are paying someone obscene money to try to scare the shite out of you or make you feel guilty. I am too old for that foolishness.

Most ministers are out for the three "P's" - Pussy (your wife), Pocketbook (yours - get sick of preachers wearing $700 suits tell folks who are barely making it that they aren't putting enough in the offering plate), and Pantry (free meals). Consequently, about 95% of the selfish bastards should be summarily lined up and shot. I would say hanging, but that takes too long.

You realize that you're equating sitting quietly in chair to acting "like a monkey". Let that sink in a bit.

absolutely not. But that begs the question, why bring them at all? whats so important about going to church as a family (with a toddler who doesn't participate or pay attention)?

Typical answer from someone without kids

We go to church (which unfortunately does not have a cry room or nursery) as a family for many reasons. And, to date, I don't think there has been one time when both kids (ages 4 and 1) were completely quite and well behaved the entire time. However, we go as a family for many reasons, most which should be obvious.

Back in my day I sat quietly and made shadow puppets on the floor during mass.

Yesterday I saw 2 different kids (both prob under 3) playing on Ipads in church. Can parents not teach kids to go an hour without electronics these days?

Almost as irritating as the stupid arse parents who let their kids drive golf carts around the neighborhood.

Looking at those gals in their sun dresses used to be the most interesting thing for me at church.

We have stopped bringing books for the kids. At least when we did bring books, they were religious related books. We have changed our mass time bc they do a kids mass during all of the readings and homely.
