My 3.5 year old sits quietly and never acts up during church.
Because we didn't give him an iPad when he was 2.
what did you do then?
and don't tell me your 2 year old sat quietly for an hour.

none. I don't go to church anymore for this exact reason. well, this and a few others. I find most services to be so full of distractions, that I left feeling either aggravated or like it was a waste of time.
I figure if God wants to talk to me, he'd much rather do it while I'm fishing. Or watching football.
The big guy must be bored as piss watching all these droning, boring "thou shalt not blah blah blah" sermons.

Wait....you don't even go to church anymore and you are still complaining about a 3 year old playing with an iPad at church????

Cry room as soon as they became disruptive. My 1.5 year old sat with us the last two times in "big church", but usually she can't make it through an hour without making noise.
We have given them books to look at, but its usually religious-themed books.
The iPad is worse IMO because it's disruptive to anybody who can see it, moreso than a little board book would be.
FTR, I'm not saying it's my business what these people do with their kids. I go back to my original point that it seems like if you believed in what was going on at church, you would want your kid to pay attention as much as possible as soon as possible, and nobody can say for certain at what age any particular kid becomes capable of paying attention or understanding any of it.

well you can certainly argue that you feel closer to God in a quiet serene setting, than in a church full of distractions, listening to the same redundant scriptures and homilies.
As for watching football, I've had several religious experiences during LSU or Saints games so there is always that.

how? because it is shinier?
it's about the same size of the book and parents could put religious or educational apps on the iPad for the kid

I definitely pray harder during football games.
And being in nature is the closest thing I've had to a spiritual awakening.

Going to church is trashy

Faith isn't a choice though. One cannot just want to believe in completely unbelievable things and it happen. If you're honest with yourself, it's impossible to believe the bible and it's implications.

I've long considered making a troll thread about how not going to church is trashy

I'm not complaining about anything. Just playing devil's advocate here. I can't think of anything that goes on in a church that affects me anymore.

That's all it is; people don't adapt well to change.

Thanks for your contribution to this kids in church thread, you childless heathen.
And one difference between an iPad and a little board book is that the iPad has dynamic content. Human eyes follow movement. It's science.

Thank you for being considerate of others and realizing you aren't the only ones in church.

Absolutely. Coloring books dont light up or show videos. Hence, they aren't distracting.

Nailed it. My mother had me in the front row from the day I was born. As I got older, she explained what was going on so that I could try to understand. I was never allowed to bring toys or books like kids do now because I knew I had to pay attention, and if I didn't, mom AND grandma were going to unleash on me

So unless you sat quiet and still for something you couldn't understand, you were going to catch a beating.
Jesus loves the little children,
As long as they shut up and sit real still,
We should reach our kids to fear,
And if not we'll beat their rear,
And if mom won't whoop that arse then granny will...

do y'all stand the entire time? stadium seating?
otherwise I don't see you could even see a toddler holding an iPad in it's lap while sitting in the pew behind
all of this just seems like old people/super parents bitching

Shouldn't you be paying attention to the sermon and not little kids?
