After reading all this, I wonder if OweO and TexasTiger would be as lenient if a group of teenage boys ripped out all of the flowers and plants their wives made them plant last weekend. Would they just laugh it off because young people do dumb things?

Hey, what if a neighbor kid knocked down a section of your fence because, you know, they do shite like that. Hehe

I'm way late to this and it may have been covered, but every year they make the pledges build a wall and defend it as other fraternities try and destroy it. I don't remember, however, the football team ever getting involved while I was there.

Shhhh, if that's the case then what can people be offended about and get likes for admonishing such behavior on facebook!

Again, the reason the wall is built is to force the pledges to defend it. Other fraternities will tell their pledges they must destroy it.

If you have a neighborhood game where you play capture the flag with each other's lilies, it would be closer to your example.

Okay, well if Tulane is playing a football game against LSU, does that mean that UL Lafayette is free to just come in and start tackling Tulane players?

Completely agree, but they weren't arguing from that position. They had no knowledge of that tradition.

If I lived next to a college campus I would expect shite like that to happen at some point.

If the pledges would have lined up in a proper two TE set, they probably could have stopped them.

That has a lot of differences, one being that was not physically at a fraternity house. Two, the subjects are totally different. Three, its Alabama this is Tulane.

Not sure if Tulane will be tolerant of that kind of political opinion or demonstration.

Yea, it's antisocial/non "pc" to have a fenced in backyard right? Or is it because you don't want everyone to have access to your stuff?

The tradition was to build the sandbag wall in front and a flagpole was erected behind the wall, for Old South week. The KA flag would be placed on the flagpole. Pledges would be tasked with 24 hour a day watch over the flag for the week, in shifts. Members of other fraternities and sororities --and many times, friends -- would plot to catch the pledges snoozing in the middle of the night, and steal the flag. It was pretty much good-natured fun. And I don't remember anything violent or anger-provoking happening.

I wouldn't wish any reprimanding to the football players who destroyed the wall. Except to be taught that, while their intentions may have heroic in their own minds, freedom of speech is one of the cornerstones of the college experience, and shouldn't be infringed upon just because it sometimes may not lean to the liberal left.

Peace and love from New Orleans.

I don't know about La but out here it is a crime to tamper with or remove any political sign on private property so I hope all of those criminal thugs get arrested for that along with trespassing, destruction of property, and intimidation.
