As the 1/3rd owner of a herd, thanks for supporting my kids' college funds!
Cracks me up that people just can't fricking do the math (not you, OP, I'm talking about liberal idiots).
-force people to eat at home more often
-force situation where meat processors are short-handed
-force every level of supply chain to artificially increase their input costs (fertilizer to fuel to labor to freight to everyfricking thing)
Fertilizer has DOUBLED in price in less than a year. Not 5% or 10% but DOUBLE
28-0-0-5 $198 to $435
Potash $340 to $690
DAP $475 to $700
If you eat food, you are going to feel the pain. I assume most people do, in fact, eat food.
The company I work for (completely unrelated in every way to the family farm) has seen costs skyrocket. A freaking container is like 3x what it was last year. Our freight has increased 40%. Materials and labor just compound the issue.
People are going to feel real pain, real fast, real soon. The magical $15 per hour minimum wage isn't going to pay for shite.

Walmart had 3 ribeyes for $60 the other day. But the local grocery store is selling meat at normal prices.

That's my max, I'll kill a cow on the side of the road and gut it before I pay those prices.
The high prices come from the processors and shipping costs. Price of beef isn’t up that much. You’d be better off to buy a quarter or half a cue from a farmer and have a local meat processor cut it up for you into steaks/burger and vacuum seal it and put it in a deep freezer

$13 per pound here in Utah for Choice filets and ribeyes.

You go to costco to get steaks?
Posted on 10/8/21 at 1:51 pm to Titan
Sounds like you’re too poor to afford to continue buying that cut of beef. Perhaps thin pork chops would be a better choice.

Package of ribs that cost around $30 was $53 yesterday. Pound of crabmeat up from $22-25 to $50.
Beyond inflationary. Out the box.

Sounds like they can raise them more since consumers like you can't help themselves

HOLY frickING shite prices have skyrocketed. Used to cost me around $45 for the same thing and these were not even Prime. This is insane.
Watch out, some professional Walmart shopper is going to come in here and call you an idiot for paying higher price because he can find special deals on bulk chicken breasts that make them the same price as last month.

No, the insane part is actually paying that for steaks. When I see prices like that, I simply walk on and find something else to eat.

I just paid $9.72+tax for a decent looking skirt steak.
Gonna marinate it all day tomorrow in a carne asada marinade and grill it up. It'll be better than your shitty, overpriced filets.

Did you not read the title?? It states "I just PAID $75 for 4 filets at Costco." Good thing Costco has layaway. Nice try tho....
