Got a terrible phone call this morning. A good friend of mine was working in his garage last night and came in to find that his wife had taken her own life.

I met and worked with him here in Germany but he got reassigned back stateside recently when his son was diagnosed with Autism.

They were close friends and at our place all time. In conversations she had with my wife, we knew she was up and down and dealt with postpartum depression, but we never saw anything like his coming.

9 hours ago she posted a pic of her and her kids playing in their living room and now she’s gone.

He’s a great guy and has had the worst year imaginable. Hopefully the Air Force can help by hooking him up with a humanitarian assignment closer to his parents so he can have some help. My boy is now a single father of two and that is heartbreaking to me.

I don’t really know what I’m trying to accomplish in posting this, but it feels good get words out.

You’re not trying to accomplish a specific thing. You’re just getting it off of your chest. Sorry to hear this. Very heartbreaking. We never know the exact way a person feels all the time. Only thing we can try to do is to make them smile and forget about things for a while. Unfortunately, we can’t be with some people 24 hours. Keep your head up brother....

That sounds awful for him. I just prayed for him and his kids.

You are not trying to accomplish anything by your words. You are just doing the natural thing and reaching out to others during a time of stress.

That is a good thing.

Sadly, suicide is not uncommon.

if this was a TV sitcom this would be the part where you and another good friend(probably a relative to the mother) move in with the dad and help raise the kids in SF.

He needs the support. One of the many feelings he will go through is guilt. Like there was something he could have or should have done. It is why suicide is so selfish and terrible. For everyone, including you.
Try to reach out and help him and his kids as well. No doubt they are having extreme emotions, as well.
At least your friend still has his kids and hopefully they can all bond together and make it through.
Best of luck to you and your friend and his family. And sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear this man. Be there for your friend if as much as you can, and help him try and find some peace in all of this.

Positive: she took her own life and not that of the kids as well.

Where did her postpartum depression originate from?

Sorry that you’re going through this bud

Sorry for your loss OP. Will say a prayer for yall.

That is what makes it the hardest. Had a girl I had met a few times - didn't know her that well - but she was posting on Facebook just like normal and then one day she went over to her parent's house and took her own life. Had even posted a cheerful status or something earlier that same morning.

Hard to wrap your head around.

Odds are, they'll end his obligation and allow/force him to move on
