Max out those HSA contributions.

Also the clear plastic stuff is as cheap as the old hardware, you just need to find one who does it. They make you weekly ones and mail them out, then after a while you're done. I had to deal with Billy Cannon's giant fingers in my mouth moving metal and ceramic around.
Yeah my HSA is pretty fat. So I'm not that worried about the cost.
But seeing the term "investment" just threw me off lol

If left unchecked, here is an age progression of how bad teeth can spiral out of control over time. You gotta go for the braces, hope you have a good dental plan

Just finished my son's SmileDirect club aligning treatment for a little over $2,000 and was impressed by how well it worked! Didn't have to have 1 dental visit as everything was done via mailed aligners at home in about 3 months and saved $3-$4,000.

And they perfectly know that teeth will always move or shift until the person dies.

Just a word to the wise in case you really think you pulled a fast one

There is a direct correlation between how much time is taken to move the teeth and their retention afterwards

Your kid will need to be married to those final trays for life, but will lose them or have them eaten by a pet, then you will understand

Mid 80's braces I had were full metal bands that wrapped the whole tooth. Who remembers rubber bands? Couldn't eat for days bc your grill was so sore.

Fast forward to when my kids were young, when our old dentist retired he referred us to a younger one that just got out of school and opened his own office. He recommended braces for all 3 kids... 11, 9, and 7 years old. I ran into our old dentist in town and he was shocked. Basically said, you'd be stupid to let him do that at their ages with their teeth. The youngest ended up getting them years later at 16.

I had braces as a kid. Twice.
Now as an adult I do consider it an investment my parents made and would do the same. Nice teeth has been very beneficial to me, both personally and professionally and I have always received compliments on my smile.

I have braces right now and I should have gotten them when I was younger and my parents would've paid for it. That said, every time I go to my orthodontist, I see children in there who can't be more than 10 years old. Why it makes sense to straighten baby teeth I'll never understand. Hell, teenagers' teeth move after their braces are done, I can't imagine how much movement will take place between 12-20. My teeth moved a shite ton between 20-30.

Does the orthodontist ever tell someone they don’t need braces?

Occasionally but the typical patient is referred by another dentist because a patient has crowded teeth. So usually the conclusion is forgone that they will need braces.

I went to an Orthodontist in Bay st Louis. In 1998 his operation was out of like an old converted house. Now i think he's one of the biggest orthodontist in Mississippi and has two nice offices in Biloxi and Gulfport.

Orthos make bank. Only negative he was a former LSU football player and those hands are big jammed in your mouth. Lol

Just finished paying for the 4th of 4 kids in braces(one had em twice. Pediatric orthodontists should be in prison). It's nice to see my HSA with money in it I can use on my copays and prescriptions for the first time in 8 years.

I got braces in 1980, one month before I turned 10. Headgear, rubber bands, the whole enchilada. My mouth was a mess.

I was a small child with too many teeth in my mouth and an overbite so bad I couldn't close my mouth. The ortho had to pull 4 permanent teeth and 2 baby teeth just to get the braces on my teeth. Had them through 5th, 6th and half of 7th grade.

NGL, it was SO satisfying to come back to school after Christmas break with out all that metal in my mouth and see half my classmates in them. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
